Mask Advice

Post by Griffjfg » Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:16 pm

My doctor asked me to try the ResMed Swift FX. It is light and doesn't feel like I have as much on my head/face as my Philips Respironics Dreamware Gel Pillow.

I found the vent holes create more noise -- sometimes it is blowing against the pillow or against the blankets and I think I have a leak, but it isn't leaking (just making noise). And I do have more actual leaks. My AHI has increased from under 3 with the Dreamware to over 5 with the Swift FX.

Seems like a simple decision to stick with the Dreamware. BUT with the Dreamware my Tinnitus seems much worse, which is driving me crazy.

The doctor has my pressure locked at 8. I know 8 is not a high amount of pressure, but I wonder if it is enough to increase my Tinnitus.

Thoughts?

+1 on the P10, very similar to the Swift but with diffused vents.

Your pressure is not locked...you just don't know what buttons to press to change it. I have had tinnitus for 20+ years and have never noticed any changes no matter what mask I wore.

And everyone is exactly like you? Not sure why you even took the time.

To tell you the valuable information that your pressure isn't *locked* by the doctor. You just don't know what buttons to press to get to the hidden menu.

No need to be a jerk about it.

Since that wasn't related to the question, it really wasn't that valuable. "locked" is a term. Maybe the wrong one. If go to the setup, it has a "lock". I am not really interested in changing the pressure.

I was more interested to find if other people had experienced this and what mask they use.

LSAT had no way of knowing that you didn't care about the lock or that you have no desire to change anything.
He was just trying to be helpful but none of us here are any good at mind reading.
If he hadn't said it...I would have...not so much to tell you you should unlock it or change anything but just from an educational standpoint.
We had no way of knowing that you didn't want to be educated in that area...most people who come here feel the opposite way.

We also found they did not want to know what other people with tinnitus experience.

I too have not found CPAP t affect my tinnitus. Certain medications can, though. Or if the mask diffuser is quiet, your brain makes up more noises to fill the void,

If the OP keeps responding in this manner, perhaps the thread should be locked.

As another member here who "enjoys " tinnitus, I will say after 8 years and 3 machines and more masks than I can count, I have not noticed any difference in my tinnitus.

Even though YOU don't care, I would go along with others who suggested you should learn how to adjust your own pressure and like many of us here might benefit from setting a range of pressures. For example 8 to 12. I am not saying that is the right setting for you, just explaining the concept. You might also benefit from learning to use software like Sleepyhead to monitor your PAP experience to guide you and your doctor in making the proper adjustments to optimize your treatment.

You may now consider this advice to be worth every penny you paid for it.
