No data since 2016?

Post by Jan Andrea » Sat Dec 01, 2018 9:00 pm

Hi all! I've been using a Fisher + Paykel Icon+ since about 2015 (prior to that it was the older Icon, which I'd had since 2011, I think?). When I got the Plus, it was to replace the older Icon, which had died a sudden death, \apparently was pretty common with that model. No one mentioned anything to me about having it looked at annually, but I had a physical this last week, and my practitioner said that my fatigue (I've been fatigued) could be due to something with the machine, and that it should have been titrated every year. I'm getting an appointment with the neurologist who prescribed the machine soon, but I thought in preparation, it would be good to take a look at my recent numbers.

I was initially prescribed a flow of 10, which would ramp up from 6 over a period of 30 minutes. However, it always took me more than 30 minutes to fall asleep, and by the time it got to 10, I would be unable to sleep through the hurricane running through the mask. Plus I would wake up with a stomachache from swallowing all that air, had terrible gas, and was generally getting awful sleep. I took matters into my own hands, and reprogrammed the machine for an APAP of 5-8, depending on the need. I immediately started sleeping better and didn't have the stomachaches and whatnot. When I saw the sleep doctor again in 2016, of course he was practically livid that I had changed the settings, but didn't fire me as a patient, at least.

Today I installed Sleepyhead to see what my recent data looked like, because my weight has gone up since 2016 and I know that can affect things. My numbers from Nov. 2016 are great -- AHIs at the highest were 1.25, and mostly below 1. But there's no data beyond Nov. 24, 2016! It felt like the card had been inserted correctly into the machine, but there's been no recording at all!

Does anyone know why it would have recorded previously and then stopped? Is there a setting I switched accidentally that would stop it? I'm going to check out the manual once I've posted here, but I wondered if anyone else has had this happen, and if so, how they got it to start recording again. I would love to be able to show the doctor that my settings are working fine (assuming they are...) but can't do that if I don't have any data :/ Thanks in advance!

Huh, the user manual provided the answer. Once there's 30 days of compliance, it stops recording! That seems silly to me.

I did get to see the last 30 days of stats on the machine itself though, and my highest AHI is 2.2 per hour. Leaks were in the 20-25 range? I don't know what that means (but will browse the FAQ). 90% of my time is spent at 6.5 cmH2O, and Sensawake says 8 but I don't know what that means. Also I've used this unit for 8458 hours?

I'm actually unclear about what the two sets of numbers are for. There's a 😊 and there's a 30🌙 and the numbers are different, with an AHI of 2.2 for the 😊 and 0.8 for 30🌙. Any ideas?

Just pure speculation, but I'd guess 2.2 was the last evening and 0.8 was the last 30 night average.

I'm also skeptical about the explanation for lack of data.

Keeping only 30 days of detailed flow data, I can understand, but typically that would be the last 30 days. Are you sure the write protect switch on the card isn't set?

It's a USB stick, and there's no physical switch on it. I have a new computer since the last time I put the stick in, and I haven't run the program that it uses on this computer yet. I'll try that tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.
