Trouble with my mask/teeth
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and looking for some help or advice... I've recently started using a CPAP (Approx 2 month) and been having trouble with mt full face mask.
When I'm asleep I sleep with my mouth quite far open and this causes the mask to rise up. As it rises up the lower part of the mask sits just below my bitton lip, pushing against my bottom teeth. This causes me to have some discomfort when I awake. Ive tried having my mask less tight and also having it uncomfortably tight in the hope it wouldnt rise up. But unfortunately it still does.
I really dont want my teeth being pushed back over the next few month/years as Ive already had braces etc and dont want any more trouble lol. I just purchased a chin strap to wear along with my CPAP mask in the hope it keeps my jaw from falling too far open but I'm yet to try it out.
If anyone can give me some advice I'd be very grateful.
Thanks

The bottom of the mask is suppose to sit in "the crevasse" below your lip. Does your mask harness have a strap on the top of your head - running left to right or right to left. If so, this strap is too tight and pulling the mask up.

The top part of the mask doesnt have an adjustable part unfortunately. I can put it on that crevess but when sleeping it rides up.

Hi Pringle114 ~~~
You said you've worn braces, do you still sleep with a retainer or do you have permanent retainer wires?
I was in the very small minority of people who had their teeth move do to apnea. Perhaps it was the mask, perhaps it was my tongue thrusting forward to get a good seal in the mask? Irregardless, my perfect teeth moved and I had to wear braces and I now I will have to wear retainers for life.
If I had known /paid attention/ understood sooner I could have had my dentist fit me with a mouthgaurd or retainer that would have prevented it all.
As it is though, I find that sleeping with my retainers makes keeping my mouth closed for a nasal cushion really easy.
My advice is run, don't walk to your dentist / orthodontist and ask him how to protect the alignment of your teeth.
Also, I'd like to add that the benefits of this cPap therapy are WELL WORTH the efforts it takes.

Hi there, I have experienced the same problem you are having right now. My solution was a new mask. The Fisher and Paykel mask here goes under the chin and stopped these problems for me. Check it out https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... nasal-mask

AZBEEKING, do you think the Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit HC431 would work with the head gear for F&P Simplus? For the OP, I have the same issue and find the F&P Simplus has less of an issue that ResMed F20/F30 or Respironics DreamWear FF if that helps you.

Re: Trouble with my mask/teeth
Wear a chime strap with your full face mask. My treatment has improved considerably (way less dry mouth) and my mask doesn’t move around in my face when I sleep which means a better deal without having the need to crank down the face straps.
