Hard To Breath

Post by Sheila55 » Sat Sep 15, 2018 9:08 am

Maybe someone can help...I am new to this. I been trying to get used to this, but can’t. Ready to give up. I am using the DreamWear under the nose mask, and I feel like I can’t breath right..hard to breath, and My chest is uncomfortable. I feel like something is sitting on my chest. When I stop using my chest is ok. It’s been 2 weeks now. I was thinking maybe the nose part of the mask is not big enough.. I have a small on the nose part and med. on the head wear. Dr. Has my machine set to 10 and I start off on 4... thanks, any suggestions before I give this machine back....

If I were to take a wild guess with that little information, I would say your starting pressure (probably Ramp pressure) is way too low.......probably turn off Ramp and just start with pressure of 10 cm. It's even possible that your pressure of 10 cm is too low.
But, "giving up" is not an option and returning your machine because your settings aren't optimal is ridiculous.

There are many people here who can help. Many have gone through the same things you are dealing with, and they have overcome the starting problems.

welcome to the zoo!

don't worry, many of us here started out with all kinds of problems. and we found help here and can give you some help too.

as others have indicated, we need to get more information from you. folks here aren't being nosy. they need to find out what settings you have, for a start.

we are all different. therefor, while SOME parts of the treatment are the same for all of us, you yourself will need different methods to get you therapy dialed in.

you can do this. just be patient and give us information to work with.

good luck!

As mentioned, your start pressure is too low for *most* people. It probably needs to be changed.

When you say it's hard to breathe, ... HOW is it hard to breathe? Do you feel like you're struggling to get air? or that you just can't breathe out?

If it's the first. (and the 'sitting on my chest' feeling tends to go along with that... the easy answer is "more pressure".

The Dreamwear Nasal with the "small" nose piece does have fairly small openings. That and if the openings don't sit exactly over your nostrils these can seem to limit air flow. If you have it, try the medium size nose piece.

Thanks for the info. I go back to Dr. Next week, and I am going to ask for a med. nose piece. I was thinking the same thing. I will let you know how I do. I also increased the starting pressure, and that helped. Thanks..

My provider gave me two different masks to try to start, and one of them has a problem like that. I just can’t get it to fit my nose unless I get it adjusted just right, and it won’t stay that way. Most of the time it just blocks airflow. The second mask (a nasal mask instead of a nasal pillow) has its own problems, but when the machine is on, it’s definitey easier for me to breath than with it off. I’m very new to all this as well, but I’m wondering if you might need a different mask. (I’m struggling with my provider right now to get them to let me try some different masks.)
