dreamwear question

Post by ravishankarasu » Tue Oct 09, 2018 4:37 am

I just got the dreamwear nasal mask a couple of days ago (use to use to p-10 nasal pillow (as indicated in info). When I used the cardboard cut out to measure my nose, it said small. However, when I used the small mask, I felt like I was not intaking enough air and felt like I had partially suffocated myself. I switched to the medium size and immediately felt more air flow. However, I am still waking up extremely exhausted, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to tighten the side straps (same with small size) so that it the mask still feels right when I try sleeping on my side. The straps are not complicated, but I can't find a way to use them correctly. I normally start sleeping on my back. Any Ideas?

Thanks!

What pressure do you start the night with?

Did your mask package come with the fleece side wraps? Using the wraps will help snug things up a bit.

Would be fairly easy to DIY it with some thick fleec.

Finally the DreamWear frame comes in different sizes. The main packaging comes with the Medium size frame. Maybe you need the Small frame.

I am 4-20, so it starts at 4. I will try the fleece wraps. The medium seems the right size compared to the pictures, but I will double check. Thanks!

Also, since starting the dreamweaver my events per hour has risen. I think it is a matter of proper adjustment, but it has been like 7 to 10 in the last few days...

Thanks again!

When "final fitting" the Dreamwear, move the nose piece side to side and see where is allows the easiest breathing. Sometimes what feels like the correct position just isn't. Move it till you find the sweet spot.

Beyond that, the Dreamwear does change a bit when laying on your side. Partially due to how it moves the nose piece slightly. If you have the small size headgear, try that also. The fleece wraps do seem to keep the nose piece in the same position better. All in trial and error till you find what works. Takes a bit more of that than the P 10 does.

I put the pads on the sides of the mask last night to see if it would help. I also tried slightly moving the nasal mask around to get maximum air flow "feeling". I think I slept better overall, the air vent on the top is annoying as it keeps needing to be moved around so the air wasn't hitting the pillow and making noise. My events per hour are still high (10 the night before, 9 last night), and that worries me. I hope just getting use to it will eventually bring that number down. When I put the medium frame on in front of a mirror, it looks basically like the correct position on the face, but I also think lying down on the pillow shifts the top a bit. I am not sure if I should go back and try the small nasal mask again, which was dreadful the first go around, or keep using the medium one.

Have you tried raising the min. pressure even a little (to 6 or 7) because you're now starting at the default low number and most people have trouble inhaling at all there... which might have some effect on how the mask behaves.

Never thought of that. I'm guessing to do this officially I would need a prescription from the doc. Thanks for the idea!

What?

We all change our settings routinely... don't need zip from the doctor. It's your therapy and you control things.

"Officially"... Either that or take charge of your own therapy.

I agree... my DreamWear always feels tighter when I'm on my side.

And regarding size, the small frame works perfectly with my DreamWear pillows even though the medium frame is best with my DreamWear FFM.

I too am between sizes. The medium feels better, but I get less leaks with the small, so I use the small. I am a side sleeper and have to tighten the strap of the head gear for the side that is not on the pillow, when lying on my side. When you have a good seal, this mask should not be too noisy. When I have a small leak, I hear a lot of hissing. I use the grey pads that go on the sides. I also made additional pads that go on the top of the frame, so almost the entire frame is covered. I believe pad a cheek has these to buy. This helps the frame from sliding around too much.
