Also, in case this helps anyone. We have changed the blower and the strange sound is gone. There seems so to be an issue with some of the makes, or maybe after a while the blower starts making more noise. I thought I would share if anyone has faced a similar issue. I am glad I am not going crazy imagining things. :-)

When he was snoring more....was he by chance on his back? It's common for OSA to worsen when people are on their backs.

And yes...some masks just cause more breathing noise than other masks no matter how quiet the machine might be.
There's masks breathing noise and there is machine motor noise...and not necessarily the same problem.
Plus some machines just seem to cause more breathing noise than other machines even with no change in masks.
It's why so many recommended you try a ResMed machine....we have many people who have tried both the Respironics machine and the ResMed with the same mask and they say that the mask breathing noises are less of an annoyance with the ResMed when compared to the Respironics.

If this new machine develops annoying motor noise....try a ResMed machine the next time.

While I find the Dream Station quiet enough, apparently you don't. It's quite quiet when it's working correctly (even if another brand is quieter).

I'm not sure what country you're in, but it appears that Phillips is not well supported there. I suggest switching to another brand.

Thanks for the useful replies. Yes, we will definitely try the Resmed in the future. We now invested so much into this machine hence it will have to wait till a new machine is due as our insurance doesn't cover the costs for sleep apnea. In our case it is 100% the devise we figured. They have replaced the blower and it is much better regarding the motor noise. That being said, we still have issues with the vibratory snores which happen when my husband sleeps on his back. Would any pressure change help? Currently we are on the highest pressure range which is 14-20 and it varies throughout the night. We are trying to push through it and finally get used to it all but we both have had a few restless nights unfortunately.

Oh and one more thing I would like to add. My dh is so restless these days. It seems like he has a restless leg syndrome. Again it keeps us awake of course. Has anyone else experienced this in conjunction with using the CPAP? We are really trying to push through this time for him to finally get used to using the machine without interruptions, but it is so tough these days. I would love to know your thoughts and if anyone else has gone through this. He just simply can't seem to get used to using the machine, but we are not giving up.

I've had restless leg syndrome for years before I was diagnosed with OSA and my doctor recommended I take Magnesium Citrate for it, which is available without a prescription. In my case, using my BiPAP has really helped reduce the RLS symptoms. I rarely have that feeling now.

But that isn't helpful in your case. I did a quick search of the forum posts (there are over 1,100 on RLS) and found this from kteague. It is an excerpt. Hopefully she'll see your question and chime in.

Unless it's been formally ruled out, deeming all leg discomfort as RLS may be missing a periodic limb movement component. My take on the increase in symptoms speaks to periodic limb movements, and I feel that worsening symptoms on CPAP is explained by the concept of masking. PLMs occur during sleep, particularly non REM sleep. With frequent arousals from sleep apnea, the limb movements have fewer opportunities to manifest. Once the sleep apnea is treated, there is more consolidation of sleep, allowing the limb movements more opportunity to fully manifest. I'm thinking the disorder doesn't worsen, but rather, the degree of severity is revealed. This does not mean CPAP caused the problem. It merely pulled the curtain back on what was already there."
