Florence and CPAP

Post by ChicagoGranny » Sun Sep 16, 2018 8:18 am

Best I can see on the news, there were about 750,000 people without power last night. I've been thinking about the CPAPers. Here's a FB post from a couple who live on one of the North Carolina islands.

They did make it through the night in Raleigh without loss of power.

Emergency planning for cpap is presently left to the individual.
Maybe this needs re-thinking.
Is there any way that off-grid power is covered by insurance?
Maybe it should be.

What good is insurance, after the fact, when you were gasping for breath 3 weeks ago?

Also, this is a Pandora's box. There are not only people relying on power for their CPAP machines, there are those of us who need power for our Oxygen generators, power so we can call 9-1-1 once a month or so, power for our basement sump pump, and on and on.

I wish my insurance just covered ALL my medical expenses. <sigh>

I was critical of people who wouldn't evacuate, until I read this.

Insurance is something you take care of BEFORE the fact. If you can.
(including self-financing stuff that insurance does not cover)
Too bad the most affordable housing is in vulnerable areas.
Obviously, those people are too often considered expendable.
If nobody moves back, it should be no surprise.
Then again, this is an opportunity for developers to capitalize on tragedy.
No public transit for evacuation?
That is really cold.
