email form nationwide medical - PIA sleep center continues

Post by cpapbro » Mon Sep 03, 2018 9:42 am

So I had a pain in the butt experience with my sleep center, did the studies got diagnosed and got the presciption from my doc, he sent it to the sleep center too.

This was a couple of weeks ago, they called me about setting up my appt to come in and get fitted and show me how to use machine, and i asked about machine options they said they only do one, they had a convoluted system but they were contacing my insurance to get appoval for device since i had already done the study there and stuff.

I have a high deductible plan so basically i'd be out of pocket anyway, so I wanted to get what stuff I wanted after researching and at the best price than prenegotiated insurance rates....

I told them i'm not sure i want to use that machine and asked a bunch of questions like i can bascially buy this where i want and don't need you for anything and she basically confirmed. I asked her if i needed to talk to my insurance because i wanted to know the exact costs and everything because of my deductiel and how this all would work. she said the insruance co uses a billing service called carecentrix, i said well let me talk to my insurance billing people "carecentrix" and i'll get back with you. i called carecentix it sounded like a nightmare to deal with them that they are like a middle man person between my insurance of BCBS, and whatever random DME that im sure would want to sign me up for auto hoses etc every x amount of months. So at this point i was convinced i should just go my own route, and why i signed up here, bought a machine and started going on my own and my results have been great (check my other threads if intersted) I've litersally only used it for 4 nights so far.

the sleep center called me back once while i was researching asking if i had a chance to talk with carecentrix yet with my questions and I said I hadn't. I imagine they're sitting there waiting to sign me up witht his crap and get their kickback for selling me equipment etc...

I had a missed call from the sleep center on friday asking to call them back.

This morning I Get an email from "Nationwide Medical patient services" saying "Welcome to the Nationwide Medical family! We are glad to have you as a new patient and appreciate you choosing Nationwide Medical for your CPAP Therapy Supplies"...I'm pissed.

it's a damn holiday so i can't get anyone on the phone yet. I look them up and of course it appears like they're one of those DME nightmare places... I don't want anything to do with them. It doesn't appear from this email that they have a specific order or anything.

I'm going to be trying to get ahold of someone from sleep center and this place to make sure nothing was ordered....but wtf. can they have just ordered something and signed me up for this after i discussed with them that i might just go my own route....this is freeaking nightmare and i'm so pissed getting this email... I hate my information being shared and getting on lists. if they signed me up for some auto crap supply service from some poorly rated DME place Im gonna blow my lid. They would have to have my authorization to order a device and supplies and stuff right?

I'm worried I'm going to call the sleep center or this nationwide medical place tomorrow and they'll say yeah we have an order for like 1500 bucks worth of crap that I didn't want and didn't authorize and already banged my insurance.

anyone have any tips/ideas/experiences like this with nationwide medical or something similar to offer some advice. what a crappy start to my day after another successful night of therapy and feelling like i'm getting settled in with using a machine and changing my life patterns to involve it....

I don't have any DME coverage, but Kaiser has a discounted price for people with no DME through Apria for the A10 Autoset. But lots and lots of people on line seem to hate Apria for the same kinds of reasons you mentioned, and also suggested to never give Apria your credit card number, because they like to send you the maximum schedule of replacement stuff and bill you for every penny they can't squeeze out of your insurance company. Sounds like you made the right choice in skipping your DME and going it on your own. Hopefully never having placed an order with them will make this easy to clear up.

tell them one time that you are not their patient and do not sign anything. i wouldn't sign to accept or reject anything. if your doctor ordered something from them for you, tell him to cancel it.

well i'm worried about the sleep center placing an order on my behalf through my insurance for what they think i need from my prescription. if they did this i'll get a bill from carecentrix or whoever because i have a high deductible and insurance won't come into play at all except maybe a negotiated rate. all of this despite me telling them i wasn't sure if i wanted their machine and might just buy it somewhere else. She had to have understood me because at the time i didn't understand the relationship between teh DME and the sleep center and thought the sleep center would be providing ongoing support, but then after asking if i bought it somewhere else on my own then i wouldn't have any support from them and she said yes and then she blurts out, we have the lowest non-insurance cash prices in the county and tells me the price for that...

so nowhere in any of this discussion was it like yeah let's go and do this. them calling me was trying to get me to come int and fit masks etc...

That's good. They can't send you mask replacement supplies because you have never been fitted for a mask by them and they have no model of mask to provide replacement parts for.

NEVER give a DME your Credit Card number. Anything you haven't ordered you don't pay for. If they send you something call them and tell them to come and get it. If they don't...after a specific amount of time (?)..you own it.

This is Minnesota, but many states follow the same procedure..

Let them eat it.

You are overthinking this. Just figure out where you want to get your machine and supplies. Did you get a copy of your script from the doctor? With that in hand, you can buy from anywhere you want. Members here can help you find the best deal if you are paying out of pocket.

Registered letter, stating that you will NOT be responsible for anything
not specifically authorized BY YOU.
You can also request they delete you from their system, which I had to do with one DME
that had difficulty saying goodbye.

I had to deal with CareCentrix, as well as Crapria,.....what a freaking joy. Let's just say it was bad enough that I decided to go it on my own, and I am VERY glad I made that decision. I don't have the spare time to waste being irritated purposefully by clowns.

Where do you think all those new machines on craigslist come from??? Someone sends you something you didn't order... it's a *gift*. :D
