Nasal Pillows question

Post by pyater » Fri Aug 24, 2018 1:47 pm

So I recently switched from Full face mask to Resmed Airfit P10 nasal pillows. Much happier with this setup. My AHI for the last few days have been under 1. I am still a new CPAP user since 7/27/18 - So not quite a month yet.

One question - the pillows are making the inside of my nostrils a little sore. Any suggestions? They were sized as a medium by DME. AHI seems good so concerned about smaller size may cause leaking....

Any tips?

They really shouldn't be touching the inside of your nostrils. They rest on the outside of your nose and the little bud barely goes inside, but shouldn't touch.

If anything go bigger the Pillows should not be going up you nose but resting on the outer edge of your nose. A dab of lansinoh lanolin can help after about a week your nose will get used to the pillows.

i agree with jas....that lanolin will help. you can find it in the infant section of your grocery store. it's main use is to help nursing mothers get over their sore nipples.

it also has a very slight tacky feeling to it, so can help slightly in keeping a good seal.

oh and be cautious...you only want to use a very small amount. a large amount will actually cause it to slide right off your nose!

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Alternatively, you could use a dab of AYR nasal saline gel in each nostril. You can pick this up at any drug store. It's an O/C and comes with Aloe Vera in it - very soothing and healing. I apply mine with a Qtip.

You can get some relief from the nasal gel or the lanolin creme. I thought the lanolin actually held up longer and "protected" longer. But do NOT apply too much as it will cause the pillows to not seal as they don't sort of stick in place.

Bear with it for a while. Even use the other mask for a night or two to allow your nose to heal. It will get over it soon. The P10 is very comfortable to use. Worth the "break in" period!

Thanks. I am trying the lanolin. To clarify, it’s basically the edge of of my nostrils not inslide. Where the pillows sit on the bottom on my nose.
