PR Amara View Mask Question

Post by bigfoot » Sun Aug 19, 2018 6:24 pm

I use a Phillips Respironics Amara View Full Face mask with a PR System One REMstar BiPAP Auto SV Advance and I am having good success with the system and my BiPAP program in general. I do have a question for anyone using the Amara View mask... The mask cushion has two holes in it, one bigger hole for my mouth and one smaller hole for my nose. Between these two holes is a strip of plastic that sometimes causes me discomfort. I wanted to take a pair of scissors and cut this strip off, but wondered if it was there for an important reason. I am asking anyone that uses the Amara View Full Face mask if you have had the same problem, if you by chance removed the plastic strip and if so, what results you received and finally if anyone knows if that strip has any other important job that would make it inadvisable to remove it. Thank you in advance for your responses......

I am not currently using the Amara View, but I did use it for about a year. I don't think the mask will seal properly if that is removed.

I have used the Amara View for well over a year and know well what you're referring to. I suspect if you cut the strip, the cushion will ride up your nose like a standard FFM, and you will get bad mouth and nose bridge leaks.. You could always test it on an old cushion. I am kinda curious myself.

Your answer makes perfect sense. I have had the Amara View for a while, so I might ask my sleep doc for some options for a replacement mask. Thanks bigdave36.

Many of us use a small amount of Lansinoh lanolin to reduce friction between the mask and skin and prevent irritation. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lansinoh-Bre ... z/17206542
