Bathroom trips. Turn off or leave my Airsense on?

Post by gayedavies » Fri Aug 17, 2018 7:25 pm

I am new to CPAP Talk and overdue diagnosed sleep apnea. Do I need to turn the machine off or better to leave it on for bathroom trips?

I always turn it off. It clearly marks the time periods where I was out of bed in my sleep data.

If you don't turn it off, your leak numbers will be artificially inflated, and it'll make a lot of noise, but it won't hurt anything.

I just turned 'smartstart' on, and so, the machine shuts itself off, and starts back up without any intervention.

Turn it off, unhook the hose from the mask, leave mask on.

I definitely agree that the CPAP machine should be turned off, and mask left on.....just disconnect the hose first, haha.

Always turn it off - either manually or through smart start - otherwise your numbers are garbage. Somehow I think you would rather take the time to turn it off than spend the time trying to do the math needed to extract the effects of the huge leak while on the toilet.

I shut the machine off, remove the mask, and hop to the powder room.
It is too easy.
When I get back, I drink a little water, put the mask back on, and get busy sawing logs.
My Smartstart turns the Airsense back on.

In over 12 years of successful xpappery, I find it much easier to disconnect the mask, and re-connect upon return. Easy, breezy.

I can think of no good reason to leave the machine on during intermission.
