My machine was switched, should I be worried?

Post by Guest » Wed Nov 08, 2006 6:35 pm

My new DME delivered my machine to my office today and brought a M-Pro instead of the Pro-2 that I had been using. When I got home I turned it on, put the mask on and it is much louder. After reading about leak issues and hearing the noise difference, should I not use it and insist on the Pro-2 or am I just worring for nothing?

Cheers,
Paul

You don't mention why they switched it out but except for a few specific reasons I'd still tell you the same thing I'd tell anyone:
If you have concerns or worries - talk to them. Ask them. Most folks are pretty reasonable and will work with you to satisfy your concerns.
Treat them like a partner in your care and they are more likely than not going to treat you the same way!

I also suggest you call and ask them.

Who knows maybe they thought they were doing you a favor thinking everyone wants the latest and greatest.

If you want a Pro2 back I would think they would do that.

I am also curious what caused them to take it in the first place. Problems with the machine? And is it a rental or have you purchased it?

I changed DME's and was told they were bringing a Pro-2. I do like the on-screen display but don't dare use this if it is a problem child.

I have the M Series Pro. I have had it for about 3 weeks. I like it. I love the data capbility and don't find it too noisy. So far no problems (as I knock on wood!)

Bairdbeth,
That is good news, I guess I will try it for a night to see. If it doen't work out I could hold out till January 1 when we change insurance to Blue Cross and yet another DME!

Do you know if the Pro 2 you were using was brand new when you got it? It could have been their "loaner" and they wanted to give you a brand new one. If the Pro 2 had had more than "a certain number" of hours on it, they aren't supposed to give it to a user as a "new" one.
Just be sure to keep an eye on the humidifier tank (potential leaks).....and probably not take it apart.

Best wishes,

I just talked to Claudia today in the Seniors section of cpap.com and she said that since they became aware of the M series humidifier leak problems they purchased the new tanks that Respironics has come up w/to rectifiy the leak problem and have replaced the tank before sale of all the M series that they had in stock.

The pro2 from Apria was brand new, my new company (which is called PRO2) brought the new Pro M complete with ALL the manuals with zero hours on it. Does anyone have any problem with not being able to preheat the water? I liked that on the old unit.

M humidifier

Post by fujiinator » Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:43 pm

I have a M Plus unit and it seems to heat the water up pretty fast. I estimate it only takes 5-10 minutes. I was told that the heated humidifier runs a little hotter then the older units. I of course cannot verify this from my own experience. I do like the fact that when the unit turns on the humidifier turn on also. I have read that you have to turn on the humidifier on the older units separately. I am not sure what pressure you are running at so that might be a factor.

Hi Paul,

"Guest" (a few posts up) raised an interesting question about the humidifier.
Were you charged (separately) for the original Pro 2 humidifier? Most instances I've heard of (at least on a lease/purchase plan) are that the humidifier is an outright purchase.....since they're not supposed to resell them. And, did they charge you for the humidifier on the M Pro?
If you were happy with the Pro 2, I'd ask for it back (if it were me). I like MINE very much!

I can't answer your question about the pre-heating with the M Pro, but I can't imagine that you wouldn't be able to.

Get what you want!

Best wishes,

Den

Apria only charged me for the hose and humidifier tank. They were having me rent the Pro2 and heated humidifier. So, when I turn the equipment back in to Apria I'm keeping the tank and hose.
