Is it normal to get colds after starting cpap? I have had 2 in the past 3 weeks and that is very unusual for me.

Actually, hoseheads generally get FEWER colds after using CPAP. Could be that that doesn't apply until after you've been using it for a while, though.

Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.

That's sort of the way I was when I started in early '05. Seemed like my wife and I were catching something every couple of months. On the other hand, EVERYBODY seemed to be sick that year, too (and kept spreading it around)......so I don't think I could blame it on the CPAP therapy. The last time I was sick (flu) was the week of Thanksgiving last year. Been pretty healthy since.

Best wishes for healthier times,

When I started cpap I started sneezing when I got up, thought I was catching a cold, started to increase the humidity number and that seemed to get rid of the nose irritation, maybe its not a cold but the air irritating your nose membranes.

In other words, make sure the humidifier is turned "on". I don't know about the Remstar "M's", but the standard Remstar's humidifier has to manually be turned on. If you turn your cpap off, the humidifier goes off too.

Also, if you turn your humidifier on (to preheat the water prior to turning your cpap on), it will automatically shut off after about 20 minutes.

Sneezie,

I do not know what normal is, but I am on my fourth cold/stuffy nose in a month.

Two were 3 days each of chills etc, one everything, this last one is head congestion. (Family got it, I still have it.)

I usually get everything that comes around virus wise. Sometimes I wonder if not getting enough sleep all these years has really run my body down.

I have only had the flu twice in my life. Do not want it again.

I can do this, I will do this.
