Why oh why do they discontinue cpap masks???

Post by DalePickle » Mon Jul 23, 2018 9:21 pm

Hey guys. Long time cpap user but new to the forum and just wanted to vent.

So for 12 years I have been using the same mask which is a Respironics Comfort Select (which was discontinued a year or two back). I loved that mask and it never gave me any problems. And earlier this year my mask and all of my backups became beyond repair. So I had the task of trying to find a replacement. First I tried the Respironics Comfort Gel which is basically the same as the Comfort select but with gel. I've also tried the Easy Life, Resmed Swift Fx, Flexi Fit, and am now using a Ultra Mirage II but have yet found anything as comfortable as the Comfort Select.

So my gripe is why the heck do manufacturers discontinue masks? I mean if it ain't broke and people like it then why discontinue it or replace it? I don't know I guess I"m just freaking out that I'll never find anything that worked for me like the Comfort select. Anyways has this happened to anyone else? What are your guy's experiences?

Also on a side note if anyone happens to have a Comfort Select Medium lying around then please oh please message me. lol.

I just did a quick search for the Respironics ComfortSelect mask and there are a few online sellers who still show it available and also some that just show the cushion and ring.

Really? Every time I've done a google search all the ones listed say out of stock or for reference only. I have only found one and it was in small. Do you have any links?

Well crap...last night I found 2...one showed limited inventory and I didn't check sizes...and unfortunately not your size.
The other one I can't find. I should have put the link in last night.
https://www.cpapsupplyusa.com/Respironi ... 26880.aspx
They give me options for inventory but there is no add to cart that I can find...you might call them up

Now there are a few cushions in the medium on Ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Respironics-Co ... lect&rt=nc

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-RESPIRONIC ... lect&rt=nc

Let me reach out to someone I know that is in the business and see if he happens to have any on the shelf he wants to get rid of. I will call him later today as soon as they open up.

Have you looked at the F & P Zest Q or the F & P ESON?

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks/nasal-cpap-mask.php#:

I know you like the forehead piece but new designs are going away from it.

As to why it was discontinued...probably not enough people like you who liked it to make it worthwhile to make it.
Not enough buyers for the product. They can't keep making all masks forever...not profitable. They have to make room in the production line for the up coming stuff that will most likely sell better.

CPAPSupplyUSA shows the item but notes it is out of stock.
The only sources I can find are pieces-parts on eBay.

I feel for you. The only mask I can use is the Oracle 2 mask and there is not substitute for it by any other manufacturer.

If it is discontinued, I don't know what I will do.

Maybe buy a second one to have in reserve before they do discontinue the mask?

The cpapsupplyusa.com link says that the item is out of stock in really small letters at the top. Thanks for looking though.

Yeah, I see that now.

I will keep and eye out for some inventory plus I have reached out to 2 people that I know that might have some sitting on the back of the top shelf somewhere. I will let you know if I find any..in the medium.
So far the only thing I have found...Ebay for only the cushion.

That's what I should have done with the Comfort Select. I had one backup and that's it. I just thought maybe even though it was discontinued I could find some old stock somewhere or easily find a replacement brand. Now I'm truly finding out how hard it is to find a replacement. So yeah keep those masks in stock cause you just never know.

Thanks! Yeah I would think that someone somewhere has some old stock lying around. I mean the masks have only been discontinued for a few years now. But anyways thanks for all your help and kindness :)

Your experience is a prime example of my long-held motto........
"If you find something you like and/or may need for a long time, stock up as many as you possibly can because they will eventually stop making them."

If I read these links correctly, there are still some available. I'm not familiar with that mask, but it appears that you can use different size cushions on the same frame (If not, I'll stand corrected). But, I'd suggest checking some out and then see how many you can stock up for the future........masks, frames, cushions and headgear.

Good luck.

Good to see you again Den.
The cpapusasupply link...in tiny letters "out of stock".
You found a couple of active links that actually let me add the item to the cart...so available I assume. Pricey but available.

The Ebay you found...the entire mask setup offered wasn't there yesterday when I looked.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Respironics-Na ... m570.l1313

OP needs to snatch that one up fast before the EBay police figure out he's offering a full mask package and at a helluva good price.
