Does anyone here live in northern California, and do doctors let you know what they prescribed?

Post by mileena » Sun Jul 22, 2018 6:53 pm

I am trying to find a new DME supplier for a CPAP machine in northern California. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need good personal reviews, since I heard many of them are shady and try to sell you unneeded supplies and have bad customer service. Insurance should not be an issuie since my doctor says they all take Medicare.

I realize some suppliers are national or state-wide and go to your home, but I need one within an hour or two away, in the Bay Area, Sacramento, or South Lake Tahoe. I don't feel comfortable letting them in my home.

Also, are all DME suppliers capable of getting any brand the dcotor prescribes? Or do I have to ask them if they have a specific model first before choosing?

And is it weird the doctor did not give me a copy of the prescription? I don't know what he prescribed.

You need to check with your insurance to see which DME they will authorize you to use. It is common for the doctor to send the prescription directly to the DME. You have to request a copy if you want one for your use. It is highly recommended that you have a copy of your sleep study, titration study if applicable, and prescription. With a copy of your prescription, you an purchase masks on your own at other DMEs if you choose to. I have purchased several from our site sponsor, cpap.com.

Thanks Okie bipap! I was told they all take Medicare. But I will ask for a copy of the prescription (and study--he said he would mail it to me) so I can shop for supplies!

Actually, Medicare does not do business with ALL DMEs.
--Those who do tests may not also sell equipment to Medicare patients. (conflict of interest)
Feel free to use my link to Medicare suppliers to find the approved providers in your area.
The green M indicates preferred providers; (there are not very many)
who have agreed to accept Medicare approved amount as full payment. (Cheaper for you)
