Frequent shut-down and error message on my CPAP

Post by jubilla » Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:33 pm

I have a Fisher & Paykel Icon CPAP. Lately, within 20-30 seconds after starting the machine it shuts down and an ERROR message pops-up. The only way to fix it is to unplug the machine and plug it back in. It doesn't happen every night, but the frequency is increasing. So far this week it has already happened twice. I've had the machine for nearly 3 years. Any ideas??

That's probably right, but if you can post the exact message it might be helpful. Also, are you sure all the dust is out of the machine, it's not near other electronics, and that the vents are not blocked?

Medicare only covers a new machine every 5 years. It will be 3 years in Nov with this machine. Bummer.

Dust where? I use a SoClean every day to clean the mask, tubing and humidifier chamber with an ion system. I change filters on the machine once or twice a month. Where else is dust accumulation?

I added a few more things to check on my posting while you responded in the meantime.

Also, So-Clean is supposed to sterilize. I'm not sure to what extent it can remove inert particles.

Medicare will replace your machine if it will cost more to repair than it is worth. You will need to have it looked at by a repair facility that is approved by Medicare. They no longer automatically approve a new machine every five years.

Maybe that broke it. the ozone from soclean can be detrimental to electronics.

It's not "ion" it's OZONE

If medicare won't pay for it, the American Sleep Apnea Association can get you a second-hand one. If you're "too rich" to receive one from them, you can get a used CPAP from http://www.secondwindcpap.com/ .

Do not tell Medicare about using SoClean--since it is not recommended.
it may even be considered ABUSE, and refuse to replace it.

Oh wow. I didn't know there was an issue about Soclean. I thought it was supposed to be really good for health reasons making the mask and equipment more sanitary. Thanks all for the advice. I also didn't know there was an issue about having other electronics nearby. I usually put my phone down next to my CPAP and my IPOD Alarm clock is next to it. Yikes!!

The warped mind of D.H. ? :!:

On a more serious note, D.H. must not be aware of the US FCC Part 15 requirements that devices must be able to ACCEPT any radio interference without malfunctioning.

And yes, I have an FCC General Class Radiotelephone License. ;)

Fisher Pickle doesn't repair the ICON they replace them. The first 2 years are free replacements, to 5 years they charge a flat replacement fee, after 5 years throw it away. Depending on model they usually charge $250 to $350 flat fees. The first 6 digits are the manufacture date: yr, Mo, Day.

How does that help somebody with a Fisher & Paykel machine?
