Working around medical provider that is a liar and a fool

Post by nawchem » Sun Jul 08, 2018 12:40 am

I have wasted 10 months of my time with a loser nurse practioner and have nothing to show for it. When my original provider left she became my provider by default. I did not like the location of my planned sleep study, I called the insurance and they found a nice hospital they would approve. I saw someone in the provider's office who put in the request for me. That was May 8th, it was approved right away. I simply needed the provider to send the hospital the official study name and the insurance code. I saw provider last week she told me she didn't know how to do that. I called the sleep hygenist I had seen they told me the test name and referred her to the report they had sent her office. All I had asked for originally was a new hose! I gave her to the end of the week to follow through, changed my medical group on Friday,

I am coming out of a huge debt situation, getting close to paid off. I expect to be buying my own equipment.

The rubber part of my cpap hose, 12 years of duty, began to disintegrate and is held together with tape. Does it make sense to start there as my first purchase? Hoses are pretty cheap. Not sure if the heated hoses are compatible with my cpap, I require a decent amount of humidification. I don't know why I use my cpap every night but have symptoms like I don't. I do have LEAKS. The night I skipped due to a ferocious cough led to an even more exhausting next day.

Does that sound like a logical starting place? I can save for a used cpap.

Thanks a lot in advance, I don't know what I would do without this group!

Hoses are a few dollars on amazon or ebay. buy a replacement *today*. All 'regular' hoses fit any machine, if your machine is 12 years old, then buy a 'standard' not 'slimline hose.

I'm against replacing anything concerning cpap on a 'schedule', I even just used some tightly wound string on my hoses when the ends got soft (or a rubber band around the outside to squeeze it a little)... but if they start coming apart, that's clearly 'failing' and time to replace.

You don't say which machine you have (the description in your sig is generic, respironics used that same term for a number of different models over the years, look on the back/bottom for a MODEL or REF number, we can figure out the exact model with that number, and then we can tell you if a heated hose (besides your after market one) will work.

Maybe you need a new mask too?

Some of the folks here frequently have good deals on used cpaps.

All mine were bought used, (well, ok, one was brand new in the box, but I bought it off craigslist ;))

Thanks zonker and palerider!

SN: 3777887
model no: 1009586

My heated hose was $350, It's a pleasant surprise to see today's prices! The CPAP machines costs seem to have increased a little but you get a lot more stuff for your dollar.

My mask is from 2004, it's terribly stretched and my hair is completely torn up at the part, I think I try to adjust the mask when I'm half asleep.

I like feeling empowered rather than the victim I was feeling.

Ok, that's a 'tank' or 'legacy' machine. The new ones are *much* smaller, and quieter, and will give you much easier to access data to tell you how you're doing.

That machine doesn't have the capability for a 'built in' heated hose, but all the new ones do.

Thanks for information palerider. Does this mean I should buy a plain hose for now? It's 100 degrees where I live and will be hot the next 4 months so I can probably make do without it for a while.

I have not yet had my first follow up call from my DME clinician, but will definitely get a heated hose in the supply line.

It’s 85°F here now, and ~50°F at night now, and I have already noticed condensation in my distilled water reservoir, indicating that room temperature is below humidifier dew point. Here it will be freezing at night in October and won’t warm above freezing until about May Day. Winter, with ice/snow on the ground, is six months long. We don’t heat the bedroom, using instead a heated mattress pad on our TempurPedic and a moderately thick duvet. Moisture that condenses on the inside of the high performance thermopane window freezes, helping to keep the room humidity low, helping the 24/7 dehumidifier.

I found a heated hose that will work with all cpaps but a prescription is required. Hoping insurance will reimburse me for my purchases pre new sleep study.

The aggravation and anger are not worth it! It's so freeing to buy your own stuff and not have to jump through hoops and play games. Masks aren't cheap, but you are definitely due for a new one. For the most part you can replace parts when needed (cushions, straps, connectors) and you won't have to buy an entire whole mask for a good, long while.

As for machines, when you are ready to purchase one you can find good, almost new ones used with full efficacy data capability and you are due to see if your therapy is even effective any more.

It *shouldn't* be a prescription required thing.

What kind of time frame are you looking at for purchasing a new machine? If it's before fall, you might just hold off on a heated hose until you get a new machine.

palerider, not sure perhaps 3 or so months to get the new machine. My area doesn't get cold but it's by the beach and the humidity/temp seems to affect when rainout occurs. Hose cover is my next planned purchase.

I don't know if its a website mistake that it had prescription required.

Well, unless the generic heated hose is really cheap... anyway, it's an option for you to consider.
