Need help with full face mask suggestions.
Need help with full face mask suggestions.
I've been using CPAP for over 10 years, most of which have been been with nasal pillows. For the past going on 2 years the pillows have become too painful to use, due to drying of sinus regardless of level of humidity that my S10 is set to. This is causing pain, leakage, and lost sleep due to frequent nightly arousal due to the pain caused by dryness. I am now not using CPAP more often than using it.
One of the main reasons I switched from full face masks early on is that I have a skin condition that results in the skin of my cheeks being irritated to the point of redness, and long lasting tenderness from rubbing by the head gear of the ff masks that I have tried. I am looking for something that is light weight, and does not have straps that go directly across the cheek area. Suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need help with full face mask suggestions.
What type of "leakage" are you speaking of? Does your mouth get dry?
If your tank is full of water when you go to bed, what is the water level when you arise for the day?
Re: Need help with full face mask suggestions.
Well Sleepy head, and the Resmed program both report significant leakage. While there may be some leakage from the mask, I suspect the majority is from breathing thru mouth because it avoids the nasal pain from inhaling the dry air, but not certain. Yes, mouth gets very dry. The water level goes to zero well before I am ready to quit sleeping.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 3:27 pmWhat type of "leakage" are you speaking of? I am half way tempted to try the mouth taping again.

Re: Need help with full face mask suggestions.
Large leak and/or mouthbreathing causes high humidifier water usage.
This can create a high flow through your nasal passages as the air escapes from your mouth. It's possible the high flow is causing your painfully dry nasal passages.
A full face mask could help with this. Or, stick with the nasal mask and try to do something about the mouth breathing - chinstrap, cervical collar, mouth taping or zonker's recommendation.

Likely going to give this a try, as soon as I find the ingredient(s), and maybe an assist from the wife. Thank you for the suggestion, zonker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 5:00 pmas an alternative to mouth taping, may i suggest-

I did not know that the escaping air would do this to nasal stuff. Good knowledge.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 6:08 pmThis can create a high flow through your nasal passages as the air escapes from your mouth. It's possible the high flow is causing your painfully dry nasal passages.

I have tried chinstrap, cervical collar, and taping. Of those, the only one that offered a good amount of positive results was the taping. I quit taping because I'm one one of those over cautious weirdos, that in spite of the evidence to the contrary believes that it is unsafe. I fully understand, on an intellectual level why this should be a very, very minor concern but... Gonna try it again, as I really don't want to give up the pillows, and considering they worked perfectly for years. Of course zonkers idea will get a try as soon as I follow thru.
Thank you for the knowledge.

Might try my full-face mask from our host, can buy return insurance. Click on the name in my signature to see it. Pillows and covers mouth, comes with 3 sizes of each. Sounds like you have become a mouth breather. Pad a Cheek makes strap covers for this mask.
