Buying a Refurbished Auto-CPAP and Using Offline ?

Post by stereosteveo » Thu Jul 05, 2018 3:59 pm

Hi. I'm 48, 6'2", 245lbs. I did a sleep study. Moderate Sleep Apnea. 2 weeks later the supplier has called and recommeneded a ResMed AutoSense 10. $800.00. I have HDHCP. So no Insurance help. I can get a refurb unit online for $300. I understand it is fully auto-adjusting. Can I go this route without any troubles? I am quite tech savvy if that helps. But not 100% sure if the unit will operate w/o a cell phone connection. Also the local sleep lab, should I buy new, will do initial setup for me. So not sure about mask type/hosing accessories, or where to buy. But I'm kind of set on saving $400-500 dollars. Any input greatly apprreciated. TYVM -Steve..

If you get a ResMed AutoSense 10 (in good working order) it is fully data capable. Ir you do not have a modem (probably you won't or it won't have service), you can transfer data from an SD card, You'll need to use a computer rather than just a phone, if that's the case.

If you go with a different machine, make sure it's fully automatic and that it's data capable.

In any case, you will be able to adjust the pressure yourself, no matter what you are told.

It's an AIRSENSE 10 AUTOSET
If you are comfortable with Craigslist and Paypal, Brand New machines (with warranty)can be purchased for under $500 in many cities.

Thanks a bunch for the replies!

If I understand right I would ?:

1. Use an SD Card to store sleep data.
2. Put card in PC.
3. Run this software? (https://sleepyhead.jedimark.net/)

Again, all feedback appreciated!

Thx

It's fully auto-adjusting, but its minimum pressure needs to be set to what you need, because otherwise, it will spend the night trying to get pressure down to your set minimum, which will cause breathing disturbances, which will cause the pressure to raise, and then the vicious cycle repeats. Examining the data in SH, posting charts as detailed in my sig, and making adjustments is an iterative process that's not overly complicated.

Probably

The cell modem is only needed to send your data to the resmed cloud so you can view it on a dumbed down app. Nobody that's actually trying to improve things uses the app. There's more data on the SD card.

yes, that's exactly correct. remember, sleepyhead is mainly used on windows or mac. and it's not an app and won't run on tablets. this is all current state of the art which is in process of being upgraded so may soon work on other platforms.

an advantage is you'll be able to take screen shots of the graphs and upload them here for all kinds of help adjusting your settings.

see the links in palerider's sig for what the experts here want to see in such screen shots posted here.

good luck!

to be clear:

make sure what you buy is specifically ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet.

every ResMed AirSense 10 is not auto adjusting.

I am testing some packaging that I hope will improve SleepyHead Linux support whenever the new version arrives.

Just curious. What distribution & version are you running?

I'm sorry :-(

You can get pretty good treatment out of it, but it'll be harder.
