Is hose buddy useful? Newbie here just starting out

Post by Chandleresque » Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:33 am

Is hose buddy an essential tool if I am a side sleeper and toss and turn somewhat? Does it matter that the hose is vertical when attached to the steel support - in other words is airflow affected by having the hose loop up then down?

Thanks

Good morning,

Is a hose buddy useful? Sure. Essential, No. I used a hose buddy for about six or seven months, until I rearranged my bedroom and for some reason did not put the hose buddy back. I have no problems without it, and have found I have more room to toss and roll a round all night as the hose not going up to the hose buddy and down to the mask is longer.

The air from the machine will not have a problem going up and back down to the mask. This rise of the hose can be helpful in keeping water from the humidifier from condensing in the hose then entering your mask as the water will run back into the chamber.

When I first started out I spent a lot of money to try and have everything around therapy perfect, some of the things I tried I still use, but much was an expensive "learning curve". The way I see it is if it helps keep one on therapy, or helps one get used to therapy then it is money well spent, within reason.

For me, it is essential. I roll around a lot and while asleep, I don't have my wits to mess with the hose. Prior to the hose buddy, the hose would end up under and around my body.

The best I can advise you is it is individual to what you need and can tolerate. I have one called the CozyHoze boss. I like it, but I still wake up sometimes with the hose wrapped all the way around my neck. What is the problem with your hose now? I run mine over the headboard, and the hozeboss keeps it from making noise when it moves along the headboard.

I love mine. Game changer for me. I’m a side sleeper too and it keeps me from waking up in the night when I roll over and the hose doesn’t drag and tangle.

I also travel a lot and I like how mine folds down neatly into a little bag that then fits right in my unit’s travel bag.

My at-home hose management system is a Rube Goldberg contraption consisting of a swivel plant hanger,
part of a casting rod, duck tape, and miscellaneous hair scrunchies.
I wish it were portable, which is why my hoze boss is in my travel case.

When I travel, my leaks go up. Probably because I don't have the setup flexibility available at home. I plan to buy one before my next trip. I found a place where they are about $25 CAD which is the best price I have seen so far.

If the hose is giving you trouble, and you haven't tried it, you might want to take a look at the DreamWear FFM (see my sig). The hose comes off the top of the head. I'm a side sleeper and I toss and turn, and I never even notice the hose is there. It's of course not for everyone.

you know, when i first started out, i thought this was going to be a big problem for me. even before i got my gear, i could just see me ending up wrapped in the hose, pretty much like others here have said.

but, for whatever reason, it didn't happen. now, three years into my therapy, the worse i've had happen is, every now and then, the hose will get slightly caught on my pillow when i turn over.

we are each of us unique. i suggest you try without it first. you can always buy it afterward.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Looks just like mine, and cost was the same, but different manufacturer. Love it, as I'm a restless sleeper some nights and it keeps the hose out of the way.

It is also essential for me. Hose management caused me to quit treatment a dozen years ago. I am back on APAP and the Hose Buddy has made it possible to continue. I never come into contact with the hose. I looked at other similar devices but none compared to Hose Buddy. In my opinion it is well worth the additional cost.
