AirFit P10 Nasal Pillow Mask

Post by Mr. REM » Mon Jun 18, 2018 11:24 am

After using the DreamWear Gel Nasal Pillow for 1 year, I decided to give the AirFit P10 Nasal Pillow a try. I have used the P10 for 3 nights now. Any advice or links to topics that have been discussed about P10 are appreciated. My settings are Min 10 Max 18 (cmH2O). I have 100% mask fit with both, so that is not a problem.

Here are 2 questions I have:

1. The P10 is extremely quiet and lightweight. The first two nights I used my DreamWear humidifier with heated tubing. Last night, I detached my humidifier, still used the heated tube but found the P10 was very loud. I understand the heat part of the heated tube doesn't work when not attached to the humidifier, but why the huge noise increase from the mask? Should I use a regular non-heated tubing or use the humidifier and heated tube and use the setting of zero. Would this make the noisy sound go away? I just wanted to see what the P10 would do without the humidifier.

2. For people in my situation that are going from DreamWear Gel Nasal Pillows to the P10 Nasal Pillows, did your settings change. Mine are Min 10 Max 18 (cmH2O). I don't have enough days, weeks of SH data yet, but was just curious as to other peoples experiences. Overtime, did your Min cmH2O change?

The humidifier acts like a muffler of sorts for the machine noise. I suspect that you would have the same noise level no matter which hose you might use and even which mask you might use if the humidifier isn't attached.
Did you see what the noise level might be with the gel pillows and no humidifier? I suspect fairly noisy. That humidifier makes a great muffler.

You have several options with the humidifier in place to act like a muffler and reduce the noise...
you can use with any hose but I just turn the heat off to the heated hose in the summer.
I want the humidity though so I have the humidity setting separate from the hose air temp.
You can attach the humidifier and turn everything off if you wish. Hose air temp and humidity choices can be totally separate and customized to your preferences. You can even not add water if you wish.

I have used many different nasal pillow masks over the years. No change in pressures needed with any of them.

I have been wearing the dreamwear nasal pillows for a while, but i feel like it really does not fit right, med is too big and small is too small. Also the angle of the dreamwear feels like to points to the tip of my nose more than in my nose. Do you like the feel of the P10 better? is the sizing the same? I usually wake up a few hours later because it feels like the pillows are stuck to my nose and it feels good to take it off.

You need to be careful with humidity when using the Airfit P10.

I learned this the hard way. I cranked up the humidity and the extra moisture jammed up the very very fine air vents in the mask. Air from the machine had nowhere to go. Air from my lungs had nowhere to go. My "minute ventilation" dropped very low. Not pleasant.

For me, using my DreamStation with automatic humidity setting 3 is just fine with the P10. It's when I cranked it up further that I had problems.

Just something to be aware of.

I love my P10 and run my humidity on 2, I wish they would come up with a head band that didn't stretch out so much.

You can rig the P10 frame and pillows to attach to the Swift FX headgear which of course doesn't stretch out so much.
I did it once just for grins.

I may need a sketch of this. I have an FX headgear floating around here somewhere, but I love my P10 aside from the stretch...

I just looked to see if I had a picture but now I can't find one.
What you do is take the P10 headgear off and that leaves you with the little plastic "arms" that feed into the headgear that go along your cheek. What I did was feed those little "arms" through the holes in the Swift FX down where the Swift FX pillow attaches and then I ran the arm up the silicone. I secured it with a little tape or even the side wraps that come with the Swift FX. I didn't want to cut off the arm but I suppose someone could do that if they wanted to. I slept with it that way for one night just to see how it felt. It felt fine...no problems at all.

i take it that you know you can get some of that tightness back by washing the head band, right?

The headgear has always been the weakest link on any mask I've used... including the P10. I've thought about just buying some elastic and making my own... *lol*

Yep. I married the 2 a while back.
I don't have a Swift FX headgear right now I don't think or I would show it again. I fed the arms through so they came up and out on the outside. Then I taped them down (and also used the side wraps) to make them lay down flat. They didn't really want to but you can make them do it.
