what would happen if you put a healthy person on an APAP, 4 to 20 cmH2O?
He would throw the machine at you and kick you out of his apartment.
Thanks for the good advice, I will keep that in mind.

Great cat jnk ...

My stepson was walking in the break room at his work one day and trip over his own feet and fell and broke his neck and died on the spot.
I was hoping this was an exaggerated farce, but it feels too real. That's about as unlucky as it gets. Damn, sorry about that.

No...not an exaggerated anything. It did happen to my stepson and he was 26 years old and left 2 small children.
He was at work taking a break and got a phone call and got up and sort of was jogging to get to the phone and tripped over his own feet.
True story....I lived it. Talk about a freak accident if there ever was one.

It would be interesting to know if the cats were noticing changes in your breathing patterns during your sleep and were just trying to be helpful.

Not that I think them incapable of having an evil sense of humor. But still.
Actually, back before cpap, I had a cat who would paw and sniff at my face. Then leave once I woke up. After several times, I realized he was probably hearing weird noises and checking it out. Once I sounded normal, I wasn't interesting anymore. After this cat died, I started having more choking / gasping events on a regular basis. It is part of why I decided to finally get diagnosed and treated. Chase was always a good nurse kitty.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Thanks, everybody for your insightful responses. It was very educational, although I have no idea how did it turn into a cat discussion all of a sudden

The reason behind my question is that I had a sleep test done and had a very mild sleep apnea detected (AHI: 5.8 ). I wasn't very convinced because things looked much worse when I recorded myself and could clearly hear myself gasping for air, snoring like crazy, and wake up after shallow breathing etc. My main issue was heavy fatigue, so I was confident that something was off.

Also I later found out that scoring was done by a nurse. This is when I had enough and just bought an APAP to see what will happen. Almost three weeks later, and I can safely say for some nights that I don't remember ever sleeping better. My fatigue is gone, and only returned when I experimented with mask sizes, different pressure settings and when I cranked humidity too high, and condensation kept waking me up all night (until I figured out what to do).

So, with Sleepyhead I could clearly see that there is a lot going on. That is why I wasn't sure if it is even possible for someone with such a low AHI. Now I need to learn how to determine my ideal pressure, but I will make a separate topic for that.

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that thread so I can post something about cats.

Cats--you never know if it is going to be a companion,
a self-trained therapy animal, or your arch nemesis.

OR, usually all of the above. ;)

Dogs are much more predictable.

Oops I forgot no politics. :D

Cats vs dogs, Fords vs Chevys, Resmed vs Respironics;
Full face vs nasal vs nasal pillows.
There is plenty about which to disagree.

I'm not sure I agree with that post.

Fine, but you'd be WRONG.

Yeah, well, just you remember that no matter HOW hard you try, you'll NEVER be as argumentative as I am. So THERE!
