Airsense 10 Pollen Filter

I have been away for a long time, but I have a new question.

I switched from a Resperonics 560 to an Airsense Auto 10. It was time for a new machine and this time I got to choose what I wanted.

I am, like a lot of people, with hay fever. This time of year is brutal for me. With the old Resperonics 560 the pollen filter went behind the black foam standard air filter. The Airsense Auto 10 has a door in the side. It looks like it can take either the standard filter or the pollen filter, but not both.

I have checked the documentation and there is no mention of how the pollen filter is used, so I wondered if anyone has had direct experience with them.

I really like the Airsense Auto 10 better than the Resperonics 560. I sleep better and it is so much quieter!

I use both anyway on my S9 (same filter).

I put the plain filter on the outside and the fine filter on the inside, so the plain one catches some of the crap.

Does it help? I dunno.

ResMed machines don't/can't really use 2 filters like the Respironics filters but you can do what PR does fairly easily.
One fine filter and one not so fine filter.

Instead do what I do and get a hypoallergenic filter. It does a better job filtering than the mesh like filter that comes with the machine.
S9 and AirSense filters are the same...just look for Hypoallergenic fine filters for S9/AirSense.


The filter on the left is a fine filter...there is a hypoallergenic fine filter available that is just a little bit more "fine" in terms of filtering. Visually you can't really see the difference if I took the picture but you can feel the difference.
The 2 on the right are the mesh filters that normally come with the ResMed machines.

I am using a hypoallergenic filter currently, I just didn't know if the 'pre' filter actually added anything.

Pugsy, how often do you change the hypoallergenic filters? They are not expensive from cpap.com, so I don't have a problem replacing the every week if that is what is called for.

I change filters when they start getting more than a light gray which usually means around once a month.
Now I don't particularly have any problems with the usual seasonal allergies but I do live in a 70 year old farmhouse out in the country with duct work that I am sure is nasty because only the furnace was replaced. And it's very dusty out here...and I have pets.
So I change the filter more for a "yucky" looking thing than anything else.
I have used those mesh filters and seemed to do just fine but I just mentally feel better if I use one of the fine filters or the hypo fine filter. If I had seasonal allergy issues at all..for sure I would use the hypo fine all the time and might even do like PR does and add a second layer. I have done the 2 layer thing just to see if anything changed and I couldn't tell that it did ...good or bad so I went back to just a fine filter. It's a tight fit but it can be done with 2 filters layered.

So how often you might need or want to change it is going to depend on your own environment (dusty house out in the country or sterile apartment in the city) and your own peace of mind factor.
If you shop EBay or Amazon and buy in bulk they are quite cheap.

Since your machine is pulling its air from your room, it may help to get an air cleaner for the room.

You didn't choose wisely...the CPAP model is a "brick". No usable data. You should have chosed the Autoset or Elite models.

Perhaps the OP just chose the wrong thing in the equipment listing?

Actually I didn’t see the Auto in the listing except the Autoset for Her. So I chose the closest I could find. I do have the Autoset with data.
