Bad Breath and Nasal Mask

Post by randyyo » Fri Nov 03, 2006 8:53 am

Hello All,

I have a strange question. When I went for my second sleep study to determine pressure, etc. I used a nasal mask (I don't remember which one). I had a dinner that night that included squash and onions. Even though I brushed my teeth and all I ended up smelling the onions all night if I took a deep breath.

I ended up getting the mirage swift nasal pillows and don't have that problem.

The question: I am looking at getting either a nasal mask or a full face mask as a back up to my regular system. I am concerned that with either of the two masks I will have the same problem as in the sleep study. Is this something that will be true? Will I smell my dinner (or whatever) I ate with a FFM or nasal mask?

Thanks for your help with this.

Randy

Intresting question Randy.

I have no personal experience, just some thoughts.

Bad breath is what comes from your stomach, or maybe what bacteria is growing on your toungue. Also something to do with a dry tongue smelling more

I would assume you mouth breathed during the study and therefor able to smell what was coming from your mouth. Also your mouth would have gotten dry.

Do you open your mouth with the Swift? If you do, you will not be getting the full treatment.

I can do this, I will do this.

My disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, nor have I ever worked in the health care field Just my personal opinions.

HI Self Seeker,

I don't recall opening my mouth. This occurred when I took a deep breath (probably after an hypopnea). I know of only one occasion with the Swift where I opened my mouth (that was when I had a dry mouth). Should I not worry about this then?

Thanks

Randy

I HAVE HAD THAT SAME EXPERIENCE AT TIMES WITH THE ULTRA MIRAGE FULL FACE MASK.
