90% pressure

Post by quilterB » Wed Nov 01, 2006 6:14 pm

My 90% pressure has been between 7 and 8 for the last 2 weeks. Last night it was over 12. Wondering what would cause such a jump. It resulted in my 90% leak being higher than it has been by about 15 points. Any thoughts?

Could it be that the higher leak caused the increase in pressure?

Brenda

I don't know. I have struggled with somewhat high leak numbers, but never higher pressure numbers. Is it a case of the chicken and the egg? Someone with a lot more knowledge than me would have to put in their 2 cents on this one.

In addition to what Brenda suggested, it's not unusual to have an occasional night when the pressure needs to go higher. Even if it had to go up for just a brief period during the night, that will be reflected in the "90th percentile" number.

90th (or on another brand, 95th) percentile pressure means the machine used that pressure AND pressures below that pressure 90% of the time. You might have spent very few minutes actually up at that "90th" percent pressure.

The increase in pressure used on that night could be due to congestion from allergy, sinus, a cold. Could be acid reflux acting up. Could be meds, extra tiring day, any number of things. I wouldn't pay much attention to a random night now and then producing different results than usual, even if nothing you can think of changed on that day.

That's one of the beauties of having an autopap -- that mostly unused margin up above is available for just such occasional nights.

The passive exhalation port flow of the Hybrid is represented by the graph
on page 1 of the manual. You will note that it is much higher a 12 cm/H2O
than 7 cm/H2O. I think a 90% value more than what's it shows on the chart is a very real leak. At 8.6 cm/H2O, my Hybrid leak is less than 40 LPM,and that looks normal on the chart.

If you have the software, try to determine why the pressure went up. Its probably bad leaks, snoring more than usual, or "events".

Thanks. I know I have to keep battling the leaks. My Avg. Leak is never below 45 to 48.
