Chin strap advice please

OK so my mouth has been opening up in the last month or so. I am not stuffed up and nothing has changed so after 2 years of not having this problem I dont get why it's happening now

Anyway I need to buy a chin strap but the reviews are very mixed on Amazon. I am a female and I have fine long hair so any mask will tend to slip around on me. Also it gets VERY hot in the summer and I dont want to wear a thick neoprene type strap as I know it'll make my face sweat and probably break out.

Anyone have a chin strap that keeps your mouth closed but doesnt make your face sweat and doesnt slip too much?

i hesitate to recommend this because you mention you didn't want something that would make you sweat too much. but for what it's worth-

also, have you tried a foam cervical collar? i use both the hairbands and the collar, but again, the collar might make you too warm.

finally, chinstraps have a tendency, like the things i've mentioned, to loosen up over time.

are you currently using a chinstrap?

It took about three months to train my brain to keep my mouth shut when sleeping. Now if there was a way to train it while I am awake

I use this method, and I don't find it terribly hot even though my hair is quite thick and I sleep hot. It's just enough to keep my mouth from falling open but doesn't feel confining in any way, and if it gets loose I just throw it in the wash

i know, right? though with my huge cranium, there is only so many times i can get them back into shape!

do you use a cervical collar as well? i find i still use one because i will get a partial opening, particularly if i sleep on my back.

which i'm trying to stop doing.

I never had any luck with a chin strap, but I have had trouble from time to time with my mouth opening. For the most part I have learned to keep it closed, even when asleep. Maybe you should just stick with it for a while and see if it gets better by itself without a strap.

A soft C-Collar seems to work as well as any chin strap for me.

I am in this same boat, female with fine hair, wanting narrow, unobtrusive strap, etc. Finding the right one has been a long process for me. I suspect it really depends on the shape of your head. I have tried the ruby red, which works only reasonably well, but leaves deep, noticeable dents quite far forward on my face, long into the day. The deluxe white works like a charm but is very wide, hot, and causes ear pain as it covers them, too. The Halo looks really minimal, but no matter how i try, it does not keep my mouth shut. I've now moved on to the philips respironics premium. It's taken awhile, but little by little I think I've tweaked it to be both comfortable and fairly effective. There's another one that looks similar with even less fabric/elastic, and a narrow band, but I haven't tried it as I do think with slippery hair, you need that strap running around the back of the head, too. Also, for me, it's important that the strap have a pronounced vertical upward force, rather than one which generates the force diagonally from the back of the head forward to the chin. That type seems to actually create more obstructive events or something, for me, and doesn't keep my mouth shut, anyway.

My situation is certainly different from yours: I am male with very little hair at all, but the best success I have found with several chin straps I have tried has been with the PAP-Cap . I suspect it would rumple a lady's hair, but it is all cotton, never stretches out of fit and for me, it has stayed in position. Most of the on-line CPAP suppliers have it.

Oh lord, I looked that one up. I am already so self conscious about having a hose strapped to my face , I just cant handle a full cap with giant straps. I am about ready to give up, go back to the Dreamwear and deal with the leaks

I suspect that it has too many straps for you and would make you hot.

Here is the one I have been using, "Anti Snore Chin Strap by NONPAREIL."

It's not flimsy like some, and the price is certainly right. I usually have the straps in front of my ears rather than using the slits for my ears. And, I have it under my chin rather than on my chin. I think its a matter of finding one that fits your face and needs. If you have Amazon Prime you can give this one a try for only $4.98.
