High Pitched Noise
High Pitched Noise
I have had my machine for a few years. My doctor said it didnt record any data (despite the sd card being installed and not removed) for about 2 months. It reads about 8500 blower hours. Anyway I have been using cpaps for about 10 years and I’ve never had a machine make this high pitch noise as soon as you turn it on. It remains the entire time it’s on and fluctuates it’s pitch with my breathing. It’s very annoying and loud! It bothers me and wakes me after I finally fall asleep and I’m a hard sleeper, it keeps my wife up who sleeps with tv on and the sound of the tv still doesn’t drown it out. I wish I could share an audio file. I’ve tried everything and can’t figure it out. My rx is more than 90 days old and my doctor retired so I’m stuck with this thing till I can find a new doctor and get it fixed or replaced. Does anyone have a clue on how I can fix this issue. I guess I could try putting it in a night stand drawer to minimize the noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It certainly would help to know what machine you are talking about.

Re: High Pitched Noise
Do you have a physical copy of your original RX for cpap machine?
If so, it may not have expired.
Are you wanting to use insurance to get a new machine with the RX or are you willing to just buy a new machine on your own?
You could send it out to be repaired but to be honest it will likely cost more than it is worth.
Call up these people

Exactly what brand and model machine is your old (and probably dying) machine?
Depending on model...you might find one on your local craigslist or maybe one of the forum members here has one they would sell you.
Our forum host cpap.com would most likely sell you a new machine with your old RX but they don't file insurance.
Would need to see the RX to know for sure if it is a good RX to use. You could send a copy of it to them and they could then tell you if it would work or not.
So you have some additional options. Don't wait too long...besides being annoying that screeching noise likely means something in the motor is dying. Now some people are real handy and can take things apart and fix them or oil them or whatever...but if you aren't one of those people I wouldn't go there without having a working spare available just in case you totally mess it up.

Re: High Pitched Noise
Sorry yes it would help if I shared the equipment. I have a respironic system one with a humidifier, my mask is a mirage Quattro. It’s definitely in the machine and not the mask or tubing. Thanks for your help. Sorry I’m very clueless when it comes to this equipment
Re: High Pitched Noise
There are several different models in the System One model line.
Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit number for the model number. May have DS or REF in front or behind those 3 digits and maybe a P at the end.
Need to know those 3 digits.

Re: High Pitched Noise
Thanks for the help. Yes I have the hard copy but my Medical Supply Company won’t give me a new machine and supplies because when I submitted the rx it was 93 days old and it is supposed to be 90 days or less. Mind you I’ve dealt with them for the whole 10 or whole years I’ve had a cpap. So I’m assuming that is an insurance issue. I’d prefer to go through insurance if I need a new machine but if need be I will buy outright. The machine I have now is the PR respironic system one pro. The machine is about 3 or more years old. Thanks again for the input ill look into the forum and cpap.com! Great advicePugsy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 3:59 pmDo you have a physical copy of your original RX for cpap machine?

I can get it in about an hour. I had to run to the store. I hope you will still be on then. Thanks for your help
Re: High Pitched Noise
That sounds more like a DME in house rule than an insurance rule.
But often DMEs will tell a whopper and blame it on the insurance. 90 day RX expiration date is ridiculous.
Can you check with your insurance company for another DME in your area that they are in network with and go to a different DME in your area?
If you know for sure that you have the System One Pro CPAP...the model number will be either 450 or 460...the 460 being the newer of the 2.
The newest from Respironics in that same model is the DreamStation Pro CPAP...model DXS400xxx.
Call up your insurance company and see if there is another brick and mortar DME store in your area that they work with.
What insurance do you have? If Medicare we run into some competitive bidding restrictions and would need to know where you live.

Re: High Pitched Noise
I will be home in about 45-60 min and will look at the model number. I have carefirst blue cross blue shield for insurance. I was trying Apria (never ever will deal with then again!) last November when this all started! In January I had to switch insurances and my old DME was in that network (who said it’s over 90 days old and they need a more recent rx). Apria string me along for 8 weeks saying they needed this and that or that it was being sent just for me to call to find out it was still Pending approval. So I was excited to go back to the original DME who would always send out supplies over night to my house the day after I called in. Sorry for the rant just frustrated. I don’t know of any brick and mortar places near me I’ve looked and haven’t found any.Pugsy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 4:28 pmThat sounds more like a DME in house rule than an insurance rule.

Re: High Pitched Noise
That's okay about the rant...I don't blame you.
And not everyone lives in an area where they have a sizeable chunk of DMEs they can choose from.
Where I live there was one 13 miles away (but they closed recently) and another 18 miles away and the big choices are available about an hour's drive for me. So I drive the 18 miles if I need something and am going to that town anyway for something else.
Do you have much of a deductible to meet?

Re: High Pitched Noise
I am a newbie, so I don't know if I am reading this correctly, but MY prescription says "Established length of need: 99 years/lifetime" which I interpret to mean it will be valid whenever I need it. I may be incorrect. Perhaps your prescription has similar language?

This is the usual terminology used and you are correct...valid whenever you need it.booksfan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 5:15 pmI am a newbie, so I don't know if I am reading this correctly, but MY prescription says "Established length of need: 99 years/lifetime" which I interpret to mean it will be valid whenever I need it. The problem is sometimes the DME makes their own in house rules (and they can do it) that essentially makes that 99 year thing worthless at least to them.
They will do their own in house rules and blame it on "your insurance won't allow so and so".....they lie instead of owning up to the fact that they made their own in house rules about RX expiration time frames.
They can do it...doesn't make it right but it's not illegal.
The solution...find someone else who doesn't lie to you and will honor the RX.
Unfortunately not always so easy to find someone else to take your business to.

Re: High Pitched Noise
So sorry you have had the bad luck to meet the deductible so early.
If you can't find another DME local who will honor the RX and will file your insurance there are some online DMEs who work with some insurance and will file insurance in lieu of payment.
Call up your insurance company and get a list of everyone they have contracts with and then target the online suppliers who will work with them.
I could give you a handful of names of online DMEs but I have no idea if they will work with your insurance or not.
If you had Medicare...it's more obvious.
