6 months on cpap - but no reserves!

Post by winknblinknnod » Fri Oct 27, 2006 2:25 pm

I had to pick up a family member coming in on a midnight flight, which was delayed, and then drop traveler off, and didn't get to bed until after 2:00AM. Had horrible stuffy nose (1st time since Cpap) and could only tolerate the mask two hours, then had to get up at 6:30.

I was shocked at how exhausted I am today, brain fog is back worse than ever... I am just waiting to get home so I can lie down!

They talk about making up your sleep deficit but after six months on cpap wouldn't you think I'd have some 'restedness' in the bank??

How long did others here take to rebuild there sleep deficit, and can I ever expect to be able to have a poor night's sleep without such a dramatic setback? Thanks...

I do not know how long it takes to get back to normal. I suspect that it differs with each individual. I have been on cpap for six weeks now and consider myself about 40% improved.

However, if I happen to have a bad night for whatever reason or fall asleep in my lounge chair inadvertantly, it does take me a day or two to recover.

I have been on xPAP for 8 1/2 months and find that although I feel much better and have more energy-I am very intolerant of losing sleep. Maybe we got used to not sleeping before treatment and didn't know how bad we felt-just trying to keep going. Now that I get real sleep most nights-the times I don't I really feel crappy the next day. Thought I had some GI bug the first time it happened-now I know that nausea is just one of the things that happens if I don't sleep.
