Cpap cause more central apnea S?

Post by Timrtomr » Sat Mar 10, 2018 8:07 am

I don't have sleepyhead installed yet. Problem with computer. Started cpap therapy two weeks ago. using Resmed aircurve machine numbers After first night had 5.1 events 16 leaks ..ahi 2.6 ..with central number 1.6...was happy.
My ahi is now up to 5.9 and central up to 5.0. With only 4.2 events. .will 28 to 30 leaks cause ahi numbers to increase?

How much time are you spending awake with mask and machine on during the night?

Do you understand what the leak number shown on the machine's display means?
It's a 95% number which means your leaks were at OR BELOW that number for 95% of the night.
It is NOT and overall average leak. People often don't understand the "or below" part of the definition.

I would bet money that once you get SleepyHead installed and see when the events are getting flagged that a sizable number of them will be during that first hour while you are awake and trying to go to sleep.
These machines only measure air flow. They have no way to know if you are asleep or not and our awake breathing is really irregular and it can cause the machine to flag awake irregular breathing as some sort of apnea event and if we are awake they aren't real.

I wouldn't worry about it at the moment since you are still having a prolonged time before you fall asleep.
Can't do much about the centrals anyway at this point.

Once you get SleepyHead up and running we can then see for sure when things are getting flagged and decide if anything needs to be done.
