Yet another mouth breathing trick

Post by jnewborn » Wed Oct 25, 2006 10:27 am

I struck on a trick that helped out last night. I've been using a chin strap and a football mouthpiece to keep me from mouth breathing. I've found that the vertical chinstrap pressure is very irritating.

I purchased an Oracle 452 a while ago to use in case I caught cold but I found that my passive humidifier is not enough to prevent bad dry throat. (Apria has a heated one on order for me that they keep stalling on sending)

Last night I had a brainstorm and I put on the Oracle without its hose, with the hole plugged with kleenex. Then I put on my swift. I slept really well.

Has anyone else considered a strap stabilized mouthpiece solution to the mouthbreathing problem? The oracle worked well but it seems like it could be more effective and more compact if purpose designed.

P.S. the whole taping idea gives me the shivers. Mouthpieces are kind of a fond memory from my highschool football days. Tape was always sticky and painful.

This is the best alternative I've heard yet to chip straps or taping.
Has anyone else tried this? It sounds like a great concept.

Here's one of Rested Gal's collections of mouthleak info. Take a look at the DIY mouthpiece link - done with boil and bity mouth guards.
