Do I need the AutoSense for her?
Thanks to info from here, I've learned that although I was prescribed an apap (and sent home with a trial Resmed For Her), the company I'm getting it from has it set to cpap mode. It was initally set to Auto for her, and they switched it after me having the machine for a week. They did call me to say they were changing the pressure.
Im just wondering, if I'm only using it in cpap, couldn't I get a less expensive machine? I do have insurance, but it isn't great, so if I can save money, I'd like to. Or should I just bite the bullet and get the AirSense for her?

The standard practice among experienced forum members is to use the free Sleepyhead software to analyze and optimize our own CPAP therapy. No doctor or machine supplier is going to tell me what pressure to use. I know much better than them, and on one has my good health as a priority more than me.FrozenmamaBC wrote:hanks to info from here, I've learned that although I was prescribed an apap (and sent home with a trial Resmed For Her), the company I'm getting it from has it set to cpap mode. That said, I would make sure to get an Auto machine in case you later figure out it works better for you. They usually aren't so much more expensive that straight CPAPs.
In your case, what is the difference you will have to pay for Auto over straight CPAP?

Re: Do I need the AutoSense for her?
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what a regular cpap would cost, but for the Resmed For Her, heated hose and Pico mask, they want almost 2200. I am in Canada, if that makes any difference.
I have funny feelings about this company, but their prices arent out of line with other local stores. The cheapest place to buy is online, but I've read some horror stories (used machines and no warranty).
I do have Sleepy Head, but am still figuring out how to interpret the data. It is a lot to learn.

That is a lot. What part do you have to pay?FrozenmamaBC wrote: I'm not sure what a regular cpap would cost, but for the Resmed For Her, heated hose and Pico mask, they want almost 2200.
No need to try to learn it all on your own. Post a screenshot of a typical night for comments by experienced members.FrozenmamaBC wrote:I do have Sleepy Head, but am still figuring out how to interpret the data. It is a lot to learn.

I would think a "trial" would require the machine be set in Auto mode,
to FIND OUT what pressure(s) you NEED.
More than likely, as a Canadian, you will not have the option later.
Better to find out now, while you still can.

$2200... wow. I purchased a brand new Respironics auto 560 with heated hose for $1100 from clinical sleep in Vancouver/Burnaby. Give them a call and talk to Elsie, she is a gem and will help you out.FrozenmamaBC wrote:Thanks for the reply. Re: Do I need the AutoSense for her?
Thanks everyone. I'm going to walk into another store here in my town this afternoon to see if they are more upfront with me.
At this point, I haven't agreed to buy from the first company and don't feel 100% with them. My 30 day free trial with them is up around Valentines day.
Oh, my insurance will cover 80, so that is a huge help. But, just because I only pay 20 doesn't mean I want to be way overcharged.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Re: Do I need the AutoSense for her?
Amazon seems to think the Autosense for her is valued at about 750.

Re: Do I need the AutoSense for her?
Typical Amazon...it's gone up with the pricing...last Nov/Dec we could find one for around $500 and the black regular model was more expensive.HoseCrusher wrote:Amazon seems to think the Autosense for her is valued at about 750.
Supply and demand in action.

Nanwilson:
Thanks for the business reccomendation. I priced out on their website the exact kit I have on loan. Through Clinical Sleep it is $1000 less than what my current place wants to charge me.
When my free trial is up, I will be sure to ask why there is such a price difference and if they aren't willing to work with me, I'll thank them for their time and take my business else where.

Re: Do I need the AutoSense for her?
As a west coast Canuck I too will vouch for Clinical Sleep. Cpapmachines.ca is also very good value for Canadians. I recently purchased a resmed Airsense 10 autoset from them.

Re: Do I need the AutoSense for her?
When the title of a thread uses an erroneous name, (like "Autosense") I am concerned.
Name similarities are often at fault when a person winds up with the WRONG MACHINE.
There is no "autosense", but an unscrupulous dealer will take advantage of the confusion.
The correct term for my machine is Airsense 10 Autoset For Her.
This is an awesome machine--accept a slightly different machine,
and you could be stuck with a TURKEY.
