Washing humidifier on RedMed AirSense 10

I learned something today. I was washing my humidifier in soapy water and after rinsing it thoroughly (I thought) I noticed that there was still of thin film of soapy water underneath the metal plate. I rinsed again but the sudsy film remained. I noticed a small hole in the bottom of the humidifier chamber and so with the bottom chamber upside-down I directed a stream of water from the faucet into that hole and that promptly rinsed away what I hadn't been able to get rid of before.

Yeah it's a weird setup, isn't it? You can hold that bottom part firmly and shake at least some of the water out that little hole, too. Lately I've just been emptying the humidifier and letting it air dry each day without a lot of this sort of washing.

Probably a good idea. Do you ever rinse it with a vinegar solution?

Living in Florida, my humidifier uses very little water at the 4 setting where I keep it. I simply put in a small amount of distilled water each night, and dump the tiny amount that is left each morning and turn it upside down on a towel to dry. Repeat each night.

The tank I am using is a few months old, and looks like new still. No smell, slimy feel or deposits to even clean with soap and water at this point. The Airsense10 humidifier design is not the best ever made from what I have read.

I used to let things soak in a diluted vinegar solution but I don't anymore. I'm like Mark55; with using distilled water and airing it out each day it just doesn't seem to get dirty. I might wash it out with soapy water once a month.

When I used to leave the water in and "top it off," like some people here say they do, the humidifier got disgusting fast and even regular washings weren't enough. It's the air drying each day that seems to keep it good as new.

Yes, the construction of that tank is weird.
If the tank is immersed, water (and anything in it) will get trapped in that place.
Since it is technically on the outside of the reservoir,
keeping it clean is largely a cosmetic matter, probably meant to address our "ick" factor,
thus precipitating an otherwise unnecessary replacement.

You would only need to use vinegar if you have mineral deposits in your reservoir. If you use distilled water, you will not to use vinegar.

In my experience it's necessary to run the tank through the dishwasher every couple of weeks. Manual washing doesn't clean out all the nooks and crannies. My machine is a Philips-Respironics. Not sure if the Resmed tanks are machine washable.

The normal tank is not designed for a dishwasher, but there is an alternate one that is designed for that.
