Frustrated - 3 weeks in

Post by triumph65 » Thu Jan 04, 2018 12:15 pm

I have an Airsense 10 and have been trying the pillows and full mask (swift FX nasal pillows and airfit 10 mask).

Here is the history.

Started with Airfit 10 mask in medium, felt like it rode a little low on nose, causing pinching and made me want to breath out mouth.
Traded for Airfit 10 mask in large and swift FX nasal pillows.

Large mask will blow out above 11 psi, around cheeks. With either mask or nasal pillows I want to open my mouth and the resmed chinstrap does not keep that from happening.

With the pressure blow out on mask I feel the pillows would be my best bet if I can find a way to keep my mouth shut:(

If you take it off to make hot monkey love with someone who you think is hot then you will look forward to going to bed with it. You must wear it before and after otherwise the scheme is kaput.

You may want to try mouth taping, there are a few members that do this, but make sure you use the correct tape, micropore or similar medical tape. Search the forum as there are many threads regarding taping.

It can be challenging with the whole keeping the mouth/lips from burbling and spewing air.......take a look at pap cap, you can find it on amazon....its probably the best system you can find, in my opinion.....I went thru 4 or 5 chin strips that really didn't work until I found this one.....OH, and I have to tape as well......But once you find out the right taping method and the right strap, all will work fairly well.....

I use the Swift FX and Airsense 10. I have to tape my mouth and use a chin strap. I use Bandaid brand paper tape. It's got just enough hold while not taking off a layer of skin in the morning. Is this an ideal setup? No. But it gets me through the night.

keep going, you can do this! practice makes perfect and all that.

here's something that works for me in keeping my big mouth shut while i sleep-

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=112758&st=0&sk=t&sd ... i#p1086296

cheap and it works. at least, it works for me.

another tool i use to keep my jaw from opening is a foam cervical collar. that too is relatively cheap!

Ditto on using a firm cervical collar. Cheap, easy to use and it’s all I needed to stop mouth leaks. And easy to try.

I never have problems with mask leaking using the P10. I use the Ultimate Chinstrap to control mouth leaking. Posting last night's data which is typical. Note that it is not zero, but it is well controlled. I line it with a folded sock to keep the strap clean.

TBH ....I tried mouth taping for a while but it seemed such a wrong thing to do. For me, having to use a mask is enough, I want to keep additional aids to a minimum. I persevered with finding the right FF Mask for me, that turned out to be the Amara View (after much tweaking). Yes I do have a dry mouth in the morning but it's not a big deal because I'm sleeping well, getting low AHI, minimal leaks and feeling great. Nothing is going to be perfect, there will always be compromises, finding the right mask is the hardest part.

I’ve been on CPAP therapy for 2 mon5hs. I sympathize! I started with Philips Responics Nuance Pro nasal pillow, had message from Resmed that I was having too many leaks. Went to a Fisher and Paykel Simplus, then got a message from Resmed I was having too many events. Went to doctor and he changed my pressure from 9 to auto, so it varies from 5 to 15, still had too many events. The last two nights I used the full face mask ( Fisher & Paykel) I had 11 ahi and 12ahi. I only had 13 ahi during the sleep study. I went back to the nasal pillow and added a chin strap. Now I have good ahi scores and no leaks .Ahi’s are usually under 1per hour with a couple that were over 2 and over 3, still acceptable. I sleep with CPAP from the time I go to bed until I get up. Saw dr. Yesterday and he said I have perfect compliance. Am feeling better and hopefully over the frustration. I do tend to have a chapped nose from the mask and am work8ng on resolving that. Good luck.

Well done! You're very fortunate to achieve 'perfect compliance' in such a short space of time, some do but for most it can take a lot longer. Hope it continues to work well for you.
