Experiment

Post by youngcd12 » Sat Dec 30, 2017 11:44 am

I'm curious. Have any of you had your spouse or significant other who does NOT have OSA sleep with your CPAP one night and see what kind of results they get with AHI and so forth, whether it be through the machine stats or through Sleepyhead?

I began treatment a month ago with mild AHI numbers but bad symptoms of OSA. I initially was skeptical sleep apnea was my problem, and wondered if I had my girlfriend use my machine one night if she would have numbers similar to mine (and she doesn't have sleep apnea).

All experiment typically starts with an hypotheses and a means of establishing a means of measuring the outcome against an established range of expected results. My first question would be: what do you think you will learn and to what end? IOW - why?
A critical component of an experiment that deals with persons is to define the population to be studied. In this case, you have selected a population of one - your girlfriend. Have you run this idea by her? If so, does she seem at all reluctant to be a lab rat? Does she see any potential benefit to her or does she willingly accept her role in simply satisfying your curiosity? Among the range of potential outcomes please include she is no longer your girlfriend.

While you are playing around you could be getting the benefit of treatment....

You don't suppose she would be excited if that night was when the Russian Roulette bullet lines up, and she finds you dead from the big one. I wish I had had my XPAP, before my big one, I can garantee I wouldn't be playing around with mine. Jim

I don't think that will work.
