Basic starting of SleepyHead on Win10?

Post by feeling_better » Wed Dec 20, 2017 11:56 pm

I just downloaded and installed SleepyHead 1.0.0-beta-2 on win10. I have my cpap sdcard (protected) in the card reader. Set up the usual initial extensive profile set up. I clicked on import data, and seems to go thru ok (as shown by the time bar). But I have no idea what to do next. No matter what I do it crashes with a msg "A problem was encountered, program will stop now". Windows does not give any clue why the program crashed.

Really I have no clue what the steps are to get to the first data viewing. I have the latest Win10 on a Lenovo 11e. I click on the online manual, same program crash. Since other people seem to be using it, I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. I have installed a lot of other programs on many os, including many open source and third party programs, and most of them run the first time. (I see this is a beta, does that mean it has not been possibly tested on Win10 at all? Unlikely)

BTW, during install, I deselected the Translation component, assuming that was for other languages. By any chance Translation is for some other purpose, and a critically needed component, and the program is not capable of detecting a missing component?

Can somebody please point to a website which gives the first n steps to do to get this program going? Does anybody have this running on a Win10. I just downloaded it just now, so I have the latest version. Any help is highly appreciated.

(Cont'd) Additional info about my nonworking SleepyHead

If I hit the import sdcard data icon, even WITHOUT any sdcard, it goes thru the same time bar progress, exactly the same duration, as when I have the sdcard. And then when I try to do anything it stops (basically a program crash). So now I guess that it never really successfully ready my S9 sdcard (even when the card was present in the built in reader socket). I must be doing something very basic wrong ...

After the above posts, I noticed on the way out, Pugsy's Pointers had an item on using SleepHead !. I went thru

http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... SleepyHead

RobySue's Beginners guide, and read it. I have not got any additional bit of info about solving the problem I am seeing. Basically, SHead is not importing anything from my sdcard, it seems. And no related import data error message. I just wanted to add that I did see the help pages from Pugsy. Thank you Pugsy!

PS I am using my current S9 sdcard for all these experiments. I have not even turned on my new S10 (AirSense 10 Autoset) yet

Remove SleepyHead and install again and this time don't mess with the translation thing and see if that changes your results.

So uninstall it and also go into your MyDocuments folder and remove the SleepyHead folder that is put in MyDocuments during the install process.
It needs to be manually removed as it is untouched by the uninstall.

Then install again. It might be that removing the translation stuff broke something.

I have Windows 10 now and all I did was install this version without modifying the install and it works fine on my Windows 10.

I downloaded and installed the current version over my old version on windows 10. It installed fine and kept the data from the old version that was previously downloaded.

Thank you.

Not a big deal, but anybody knows what that optional Translation module is for?

Yes, it could have been my removing that optional module at install, or changing the folder where my data is to be imported to, or perhaps not completing that long unnecessary profile info that caused the problem on the first install. I will never know. On re-install after uninstall and deleting all traces of sleepyhead related stuff, it works now. Thanks for the suggestion, Pugsy.
