Maximum usage of CPAP
Maximum usage of CPAP
Hello, everyone!
Maybe my question is stupid, but i need to know
We all use CPAP machine while we are sleeping. All we need to do is to wear the mask and turn on the machine. Maybe there are some options of CPAP therapy that can make health/mood or else better in somу way with the use of CPAP?! I mean maybe there are any liquids that can be put in the water in the humidif and make lungs "happy" or something in that way.
Or something else besides CPAP therapy that i can do during the night (some clothes or helmets/masks/medicine... whatever)?
Any thoughts? %)

Yes - don't ever, ever put anything at all in the water. Very bad idea - your lungs would not be happy! The only thing that has been done on occasion is to put a cotton ball with a little e.g. lavendar or other nice smelling oil or scent near the air intake of the machine to help you sleep. And if there were other things to wear with the mask you would have heard about them long ago. Some people do wear a soft cervical collar to help keep their head off their chest, airway more open and jaw more closed (helps with mouth breathing for people who have trouble with that).

Thanks, Julie!
I understand that putting anything in humidif is a very bad idea, it was just an example. Sometimes i do use aromatherapy waffers with different aromas (from cpap.com). The main question was - as far we are all pro's in night treatment - may be there are any other night treatment (not for apnea)?! CPAP therapy was a miracle for me when i first met with it Maybe any other miracles?
Other thing i'd like to mention - i am from Russia. CPAP therapy here is not very popular and well known, may be as something else used during nights.

There are other things people try like dental devices or certain surgeries, but none are as effective as Cpap and some leave patients in worse condition than they were in before.

Welcome to the forum! Your English is very good. Did you learn in Russian schools?
Here is a checklist to improve your sleep quality:hostcr wrote:Maybe there are some options of CPAP therapy that can make health/mood or else better in somу way with the use of CPAP?!
- Practice good sleep hygiene (Google it and read several sources)
- Eat a good diet
- Have a regular, moderate exercise program
- Try to avoid daytime naps
- Practice total abstinence of caffeine including sources like chocolate (sigh)
- Review all medicines, vitamins and supplements you are taking to make sure none are interfering with sleep
- Use the bedroom for sleeping (and sex) only, and make sure the bedroom and bed are comfortable.
- Learn to appropriately handle emotional stress in your life
- Do not listen to your breathing or the sound of the machine as you are falling asleep.
- Distract your mind by thinking of a pleasant, relaxing activity that you enjoy. Thinking of sitting under an umbrella on a quiet beach with a warm gentle breeze works for me.
- Use CPAP software, such as the free SleepyHead, to make sure your therapy is optimized
- If you still don't feel or sleep well, make sure you have regular medical checkups to confirm there are no other medical problems

If you have a long hose and a safe stable place for your machine I think it's fun to use the cpap with different yoga poses.
I doubt it is any more effective than using good yoga breathing technique but it is fun.
Also of course certain kinkier romantic games are fun fantasy with masks and hoses.
