Brand New...reading results

Post by itsjustme8 » Fri Oct 27, 2017 6:27 am

Here's a representative version of a night's sleep for me. I'm not working with a doctor (long story) so I'm here looking for advice.

My machine is set to ramp with a pressure of 5.0 and max of 15.0 I'm feeling better but believe I can do better. Please advise on settings. Apologies as this is my first time posting results

Is the 6 hours shown on that report pretty typical average for number of hours slept?

Your report is actually pretty good. I see no reason to change anything based on what is shown on the report...at least at this time.
Over half of your already fairly low AHI is central and we wouldn't be increasing the pressure for those anyway. We don't/can't do anything with the centrals with your machine. More pressure won't help the centrals.

You say you are feeling some improvement but feel there is room for improvement...more details please on what you feel is lacking?

Do you wake often during the night? If so, that might explain some of those centrals...either sleep/wake/junk and not real or a sleep onset central. Even if they were all real there's not enough of them to warrant much concern.

Do you take any medications? If so, what?

How long have you been on cpap?

I've been on CPAP for about 3 weeks. What's encouraging is I took to the mask immediately so that's hardly an inhibitor.

I do wake at times. I know, I sometimes nap during the day and have, at times, had a cup of coffee around 7-8 pm. I think getting into a set sleep schedule will help me with a bit better sleep hygiene.

6 hours of fragmented sleep is likely going to mean a person will want to take a nap during the day.
Heck, 6 hours of not fragmented sleep will usually mean I will want to take a nap...I need at least 7 hours of decent solid sleep or else I get sleepy in the afternoon.

Fragmented sleep for any reason messes with the restorative powers of sleep.
So work on the sleep hygiene stuff and try to figure out where you could maybe get more hours of sleep and see if that coffee in the evening is maybe causing some of the wake ups during the night.

Take a long hard look at your overall sleep hygiene and what you might be doing that is bad.
If you take any medications take a long hard look at any potential side effects that might be either messing with your sleep or causing daytime unwanted symptoms.

You are already further along than I was at 3 weeks into therapy...heck it took me 2 weeks just to get the pressures tweaked where the AHI was less than 7.0.

The only thing that I see on this report....the 6 hours of sleep. Most people need more to feel at the top of their game.
Now if you think the changing pressures could maybe be a factor in the wake ups...might think about changing the minimum and doing a really tight range (or even cpap mode) to see if your sleep quality improves by reducing or removing the variations in pressure.
Some people sleep right through wild changes and some people are disturbed by the least little change.
Like maybe setting the minimum to 7 cm. You can leave the max where it is ...the machine isn't going there anyway.
