Remember that CNN headline about cpap not helping?

Post by palerider » Sun Sep 17, 2017 3:46 pm

Remember that CNN headline proclaiming that CPAP doesn't cut heart risks?

Here's the lanky lefty's take on the study, and the CNN sensationalism:

As usual, he doesn't pull any punches.

Thanks palerider. I enjoyed watching that video. I also adore Lankylefty, he's hilarious and always cuts through the BS.

I just can't imagine sleeping without CPAP anymore and when I read those stats from that study now just shake my head. Why this study saw the light of day beats me, it got me quite upset at the time it was discussed here, esp for the newly diagnosed.

I love Jason and his videos! I thanked him profusely for the one he did on : Full Face Mask--do you really need one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK2uE07bvKc . That literally changed my CPAP life!

The CNN article? Man, what a horrible misrepresentation of the original study and the original study was crap in the first place.

Yes!! Jason and his videos led me to finding answers, too. I did a search on treatment after my diagnosis, and found his videos - humorous, packed with information and tips, worth seeing several times. Then it was on to his website (FreeCPAPAdvice), then ApneaBoard and here. It was wonderful to find others with sleep apnea who are willing to share what they have learned with newbies like me.

I don't think political commentary has any place on this forum. We're trying to help each other regardless of our political views, aren't we?

I stand corrected. Apparently this is an un-moderated forum and folks can speak as freely as they choose without forum consequence. My bad.

We are indeed an ornery bunch who speak their minds. I don't think CNN deserves too much criticism for this. It was an online story by a freelancer, not a prime time special, and it is no worse than the usual casual science journalism. Unfortunately, most stories in the mainstream press about scientific publications are awful and always have been. Have a look sometime at newspapers' attempts at explaining special relativity back in the early 20th century. Somehow explaining science to the public doesn't seem to be in many reporters' skill sets.

I tend to disagree with those who say the study itself was crap. There are lots of reasons not to be convinced by it, of which the biggest is the miserable rate of utilization by those in the CPAP arm of the study. It's kind of tough on the authors that after all the work they put in, their subjects were so non-compliant, but failures and negative results should still be published. On the other hand, there was no reason for publicizing this to a general audience as if we ought to take note and modify our behavior.

Fortunately, the "speak freely" part allows us to moderate our own selves .... but few rarely select that consequence.

Nonetheless, those who decide to stick around a while will benefit in one way or another.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

It is no surprise what-so-ever.

CNN stands for Communist News Network! The only news(?) they air is FAKE!
