owning a forum
owning a forum
Can someone actually "own" this forum? I have seen this statement around. Now I am not an expert on this. Can some one explain?
Re: owning a forum
Sure. All you need is a domain name (like cpaptalk DOT com), a server (either owned or rented), and a fast connection to the internet and you too can own your own forum.

You get to make your rules as to how it's run. You could control, who can use it, and how. But the downside, you have to pay all the bills, and put up with all the crap from it. Re: owning a forum
A forum owner may also assess fees if they choose, and even practice censorship--often arbitrarily.

Do they accept BitCoin, I even except Bits of a coin, Gold or Silver only! Jimchunkyfrog wrote:A forum owner may also assess fees if they choose, and even practice censorship--often arbitrarily.

Was that really necessary? This is why people tend to criticize your posts. I've been here for maybe a week and already I've seen only bits of helpful information from you, mostly in the form of what someone else has already said.. The rest have been unnecessary amounts of sewage.xxyzx wrote: you finally got something right

I can understand wanting to help, but you berating people and tossing others under the bus, plus misquoting/spreading false information is a quick way to get you ignored and set someone else on the wrong path. If I were you, I'd start looking into possibly stowing the name, creating a new account and starting over.

Re: owning a forum
I've just been back for a week after an extended CPAP vacation and share your observations. This forum is not moderated (the inmates run the asylum), so what limits on rude behavior, harassment, or vulgarity in other forums don't apply here. It's a bloody shame, because there are many helpful, truly knowledgeable people here. You just have to wade through the sewer to get to them. Watch out for the clowns.Rukel wrote:Was that really necessary? This is why people tend to criticize your posts. yes
someone owns the forum
they pay the money to rent server space and isp connections to host it
they paid for the software to run it
they pay for people to keep it working like when the koreans spring spam attacks en masse

Really, xxyzx and amess need their own forum. How about "Sociopaths Unite?"

They don't need a forum, they just need two soup cans and a string, long enough to reach from her attic to his mom's basement!
