That too, I had to buy one for my laptop, after the servers crapped out. this new Toshiba Satellite Skullcandy doesn't have one, if you watch you can get a Asus USB one for $ 15 after rebate. But their Rebates are a pain. Sad, when I started a External CD Burner from Sony cost $ 600, still works. Times have changed. and sd readers on laptops ARE rare
nothing was disproved
you are just another lying libtard
desktops may have various card readers built in
most latptopss only have usb ports
What kind of laptops do you look at?
I haven't seen a laptop in the last 10 years that doesn't have a built-in SD card reader. I currently have a Toshiba, 3 HPs, and a Dell. All 5 have SD card readers. I also have two mini laptops, and they both have SD card readers.
big desktops may have them
the small thin light laptops do not
SD cards are basically old school and being passed over, tech's passed them by for faster and smaller, more efficient. It's hard to find one with a floppy disk reader too.

My late sister built my computer, so I don't have a built in SD card reader because, well, I didn't need it. The only devices I have that use SD cards are the Netbooks (which are failing now) and the digital cameras and then I just bought a dohickey to transfer stuff. When I get my new desktop build next year, I was just planning on more USB slots. Should I get an SD card reader slot?Goofproof wrote:xxyzx wrote:zoocrewphoto wrote:xxyzx wrote:

Also, thanks Pugsy, I will no longer lock my SD card since I sold off my S9 backup. Yay!!

I used to build my own desktops also. But IMO these days it is best to go with a laptop w/largest screen you can find (17"). They have a full sized keyboard and because they operate on battery power have a built-in UPS which is just another expense for the desktop builder. For me a laptop is the way to go - you can move it out of the way if you need to or pick it up and take it with you easy enuff. I keep mine plugged while I am using it.SewTired wrote:When I get my new desktop build next year

I think they have Card Readers, that work in USB that aren't too costly.SewTired wrote:My late sister built my computer, so I don't have a built in SD card reader because, well, I didn't need it. Sd card readers are often used as promotional giveaways at trade shows.
The bullfrog and I have a hobby of going to several of these a year, just for the swag.

I think that's the way to go. I have an SD card reader built into my desktop, but over time it has become flaky. I use something like these below, which if they fail, which hasn't happened yet, are so cheap as to be disposable. I actually ordered 4 or 5 as backups, but since they haven't failed yet, I've gifted them to family and friends.Goofproof wrote:I think they have Card Readers, that work in USB that aren't too costly.
