First night on APAP went from 33 AHI to 1?!
Well just had my first night with my new machine! I went with the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset (Thanks everyone for the advice!) And a Resmed N20 nasal mask. Pressures set to auto 5-15 cmH20
I practiced with a nap earlier in the day yesterday and had some moments my mouth kept opening so I thought I was going to have trouble at night...But according to the MyAir app, I had almost 7 hours of usage, "good" mask seal, and 1.0 events per hour. Fluke or am I just lucky?
I know, I should get Sleepyhead- I'm planning on picking up an SD card reader soon. Anyhow, I'm somewhat celebrating but somewhat skeptical haha. I'm still sleepy today but like everyone said it'll take some time for my body to start feeling the benefits.
Anyhow, thanks everyone for all the great info on here. The RT was impressed with how much I knew about masks and terms, troubleshooting etc.

That's ideal...Great job. Don't be discouraged it the AHI doesn't stay that low. we sleep different every night. Your AHI may fluctuate every night, but it should stay under 5.

Great job- even good that you got 7 hours. Some people struggle learning how to sleeping with it. Just learn as much as you can, so you can help yourself. Woo Hoo!!!

If you have a laptop, it almost certainly has a slot built in. It's easy to overlook the slot.palindrome17 wrote:I'm planning on picking up an SD card reader soon
If you really need to buy a SD card reader, the cheapest ones work well. https://www.walmart.com/search/?query=s ... peahead=sd

It's always nice when the first night goes well.
Some lucky people who start cpap therapy do take to it like a duck to water.
If you have some bumps down the road...don't panic...we all have had them at one time or other.
Come back here and explain the problem and we will see what the solution options are.
I guarantee you that someone somewhere sometime has had the same problem and knows how to fix it.
Good job.
Please don't expect an overnight miracle changing you to super woman or super man....your body didn't get in this shape overnight and it can't be fix overnight. A lot of people have unrealistic expectations and get bummed out when those expectations aren't met. Doesn't mean that cpap isn't working..just means it takes some time to fix all the stuff that has been messed with for so long.
And remember...cpap can only fix sleep apnea related problems.
It can't fix bad sleep if the bad sleep is caused from something else besides sleep apnea. There's a mile long list of causes for bad sleep besides sleep apnea.
But we gotta start somewhere...and if you have sleep apnea we start there.

I use the same apap machine and mask as you. Mine went from 37 to 1 or 2 pretty much since day 1. After 75 days I averaged 0.99 AHi and max was 1.99palindrome17 wrote:Well just had my first night with my new machine! I went with the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset (Thanks everyone for the advice!) Thanks everyone for the encouragement!
You're absolutely right, Pugsy. After all the reading around here, I really was preparing myself to have a disappointing few weeks- which is why I was surprised. Perhaps I'm one of those lucky people (I'm sorry everyone else who is struggling...) But like you said, it's still only the beginning.
Just had night #2- 0.91 AHI 7 hrs 41 mins. I woke up a once or twice since my nose was tickling under my nasal mask. I wonder if I took to this more easily because I work in surgery? I wear a mask on my face for three 12 hour shifts every week.
You were right- my laptop has an SD card reader. Here I thought I was tech-savvy and my SOFTWARE ENGINEER husband convinced me the slot in my comp wasn't the right size haha. I was able to transfer the data. Now I just have to read up on how to interpret the info!
Thanks again.

Remember that complainers speak the loudest, and some new people may get an off-putting impression.
Of course, those of us with a "can-do" attitude will have an entirely different experience.

I have 2 laptops...both 3+ years old...1 HP and 1 Acer. Both have SD reader slots.xxyzx wrote:======ChicagoGranny wrote:If you have a laptop, it almost certainly has a slot built in. It's easy to overlook the slot.palindrome17 wrote:I'm planning on picking up an SD card reader soon

SD reader on a laptop is very very rare
they have usb ports standard
most people even need to use usb expanders to get more ports for all the devices and memory sticks
the problem is that too many laptops have problems readign usb memory sticks
as well as reading usb on expanders
not all but too often a problem as shown by the complaints online asking how to fix that problem

I have 4 laptops....and my mom has 2...and all have SD slots. It would be rarer to have a laptop without a slot.LSAT wrote:

Now tablets...whole different thing.

Re: First night on APAP went from 33 AHI to 1?!
ding ding ding ding ding! I'm buying a lottery ticket tonight because I have two laptops of my own and one for work and ALL THREE have a built-in SD card reader. And before you get too worked up over it one of these machines is about 10 years old and probably designed 12 years ago. So no, not rare in any way in my experience. A 100% SD slot count is pretty convincing evidence indicating the opposite of your claim.xxyzx wrote: ...

Thank you!Rainmom17 wrote:Glad to hear of your success so far! How did you feel after the second night?
Second night I got <1 AHI! I know it's too early to tell and it's probably the placebo effect but I feel like I'm more alert than I usually am for a weekend. Could be in my mind... maybe not who knows! Things seem to be moving in the right direction! At first I was starting to wish I had chosen a smaller profile mask than my N20 such as the Dreamwear (but reviews were kind of hit or miss) or if I should have gotten nasal pillows. But I seem to be having great success so far so why fix it if it ain't broke right?
Re: First night on APAP went from 33 AHI to 1?!
After just a couple of days on CPAP I had a co-worker who I didn't really interact with very much comment to me something to the effect of why was I so relaxed and I friendly all of a sudden or some such. I told him I was finally sleeping normally after years of OSA. I was improved, moreso than I had noticed myself.palindrome17 wrote:Rainmom17 wrote:...
