Sleepyhead not working on Win 7

Post by yawnny » Wed Aug 30, 2017 1:03 am

I'll try to make this short.

My everyday laptop runs WIN 10, with Sleepyhead, not sure of version, but older than SleepyHead-1.0.0-beta-2-Snapshot-Win32-OpenGL-20160422. Worked fine for years.

Due to mechanical damage to the case, I do not have access to this machine currently.

I moved most of my "stuff" to a WIN 7 laptop, and downloaded the only available version of Sleepyhead I could find, SleepyHead-1.0.0-beta-2-Snapshot-Win32-OpenGL-20160422. I looks like it going to start, but comes up, and with a missing dll message.

I've Googled a bit, and found references to this issue, but no solutions.

Help?

Which dll does it say is missing?

Is this what the message says??
MSVCR 120.dll is missing from your computer.
If so it's easily fixable. If it something else we need to know exactly what is said is missing.
If you get a message something like "MSVCR120.dll is missing," you need to install the "Microsoft Visual C++ 201xx Redistributable Package."
Go here and click on download button...it will take you to another page where you have to choose from 3 files....choose the middle file ...which is the vcredist 64 file... download to your computer....then go to this download and double click on it and let it install...don't try to put it anywhere other than where it wants to go.

api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0.dll seems to be the missing dll.

That's a new missing dll. I don't remember that one at all.

Is this where you got your SH version?
https://sleepyhead.jedimark.net/

Is this Windows 7 computer working otherwise?

I found this and a bunch of other stuff like it when I did a search for missing so and so
https://www.dllme.com/dll/files/api_ms_ ... l1_2_.html

SH worked fine on my Windows 7 computer. I did have to do the missing dll thing that I mentioned above which was the most common missing dll message. I have never seen or heard of the message you are getting. Sorry.

it actually does run on win7 - I assume you have a 64 bit windows 7?

I can't post links - so you have to search them up.
1st: make sure your windows is up to date - run windows update! (really! I mean that! If asked do the long check ... "manual" or "customized" or whatever that was called back in the days!)
2nd: make sure you got the update for the C Runtime (CRT) in windows.
3rd: make sure you got the MS VC++ redistributables BOTH IN 32 AND 64 BIT (this is very important!)
Note: install them all! (newer is not always better - every version corresponds to one single compiler-version! - you really need them ALL!)
to make that more clear: we are talking about the runtimes for visual Studio 2015 AND 2013 AND 2012 AND 2010 AND 2008 (YES! AND! NOT OR! - BOTH IN 32 bit AND 64 BIT!)

Restart!

If SleepyHead does not run after that, your system is screwed! (you might have a chance by deinstalling that runtimes --> restart --> reinstall them - but don't get your hopes up if your system is really screwed!)

last chance: apneaboard(dot)com/SH-old/ there you can get the old 0.9.8 (which came in 32 AND 64 bit)

I believe xxyzx is right.

It must be a crap software, if the devolper did not pay for the enterprise version of M$ Visual Studio, so he or she could include the redistributables in the binary. Microcrap is only giving away the redistributables to fill up your harddrive and make windows slower and more buggy.

The fact that the crappy software, SleepHead, comes for free and enables you to see your machine data from multiple machines and manucaturers in the same way, should make you think. Why would someone give away such a thing for free? It must be crappy and only to mess with your computer.
Don't be a libturd! Buy the software from your manufacturer and don't bother getting the runtimes needed to run any software written with the free versions of M$ (microcrap) Visual Studio.

Hmmm....odd that probably 98% of the people using SleepyHead have zero problems with anything missing on this last version release.
It was only the 9.8.1 version where some dll files were inadvertently forgotten to be included in the version release mainly because Mark was in a rush because people were bugging him to "hurry it up" plus he did it while sick himself.
That was the only version release where there was wide spread missing dll messages. Since then very sporadic and not at all widespread and 98% of the people haven't had one issue. Makes one wonder where the problem lies doesn't it?

Hmmm.....odd again that we have been using SH for over 5 years now and been through various Beta versions. I used the very first version in fact.....again most people don't have issues that you and your new best friend seem to have.
It is very clearly noted that it is Beta software and if that bothers a person...simply don't use it. Plain and simple. Beta anything isn't for everyone. Clearly that includes you. Don't use it.

Good luck with that. They won't sell the software to patients without a written prescription from the doctor and then you get to pay between $200 and 400 depending on who screws you. You think SH is buggy....you are in for a rude awakening if you happen to need or want Encore Pro.

Have you applied for forum membership yet? Sure hope so. I have a special list for you to join with a few select members.
I will ask Carolyn to put a rush on okaying your request...sure hope you made one.

Or since

seems to some from only one forum member here...maybe you are already on that list and using an alias. Or you just like the word and that speaks volumes either way.
If that's the case....have a nice day. And those that know me...know what that means when I say it like that.

this thread is a classic example of the end-of-alphabet-guy giving out crap (and very ill advised) recommendations!

SH works very fine in windows 7! ... if someone thinks that turning off windows update keeps him safe ... well - whole different story of tin foil hat.

and just btw: good luck with running a program compiled für MS (yeah! it is Microsoft!) DOS 6.22 on DOS 5. (so much for: no DLLs needed!)

This is laughable. Kind of sad really. Wasn't me guys, anyone can put that as their name. I would love for registration to happen so I can use the actual acount I tried to create (thatguytyh).

Hey pugsy. Wasn't me. Just someone trying to make me look dumb/rude. It actually made me laugh a little. I guess I should be flattered that someone took the time and intent to say exactly what they knew would make people dislike me and pretend that it was me. I also hope my registration goes through so that this kind of thing doesnt reoccur.

I could see the sarcasm with closed eyes from a mile away. Was pretty clear to me, that it was not xxyzx's wife saying that.

Someone morphed your name...I have a pretty good idea who it was since only one person here continually uses a word that makes me see red and he slipped up and used it again.

Yes, anyone can do that...and another reason I don't like open posting but my opinion along those lines doesn't carry any weight.
Sneaky people just wanting to stir up trouble because that's what trolls love to do.

Maybe I should start doing that and really letting loose. It's easy to do especially now that the "also posted as" thing is a joke and worthless.
