Aussie heated hose

Post by bairdbeth » Thu Oct 05, 2006 4:00 pm

I have had rainout since I started (granted it has only been 6 nights ) Last night I didn't have a problem, but I had my HH down on 2 ( 3 was great for nasal dryness, but not rainout) had to turn my air conditioning up 3 degrees and turn my ceiling fan off. I woke up sweating, so that won't work. If I get the heated hose will it stop the rainout even if I keep my room cool and ceiling fan on? In the winter I keep it set at 68-69, summer 76 with fan on. It seems to be only in the mask, not hose. I think it is from my breathing out. Will the aussie hose stop that? Also, insurance replaces regular tubing every 6 months. Does the heated hose have to be replaced that often? Since it is out of pocket, that could get rather expensive
Thanks!
Beth

I think RG said she had her heated hose for a couple of years and it still works fine. So, it should last quite a bit longer than 6 months.

It should stop rainout - except in extreme cases (mine). But if it doesn't stop the rainout, it will definitely lessen rainout. I might be the only person on this forum that still gets rainout in spite of all my precautions. I too keep a really cool temperature in the bedroom plus a ceiling fan. Here's a list of steps to help stop rainout:

1. Keep your xpap machine below the level of the mattress, as low to the floor as possible.
2. Use hose covers – flannel or fleece tubing to cover your hose. Use as many as necessary. (I use three covers on my Aussie heated hose and I still get a few droplets of rainout using my Aura – but I appear to be an exception, not the rule).
3. Run your heated humidifier as low as you comfortably can.
4. If your hose runs up over your head, try not to raise it really high to where it has a long drop back down to your head.
5. Raise your room temperature as high as you are can and still sleep comfortably.
6. Nasal pillows are usually more prone to rainout than masks.
7. If all else fails, purchase an Aussie Heated Hose from Australia. Not only does it help prevent rainout, but it also warms the air before it hits your face and/or up your nose. Here’s the site:

For me it did. No rainout in the mask whatsoever.

No. I've had mine 18 months so far.

I've been using the Aussie for a week now. I like a cool room and run a fan plus the ceiling fan. I had my humidifier set at 3 to control rainout prior to the Aussie. I've used the Breeze, Swift and Aura. Got the worst rainout with the Aura. I've only used the Aussie with the Breeze so far and haven't had any problems. Even raised the humidifier setting to 4. So for me it is working.

I've been using the aussie hose for a couple of weeks. I keep the HH on 3. Not a drop of moisture! I like a cool room, the last few nights it was 62. Still no problems. For me the best part is my nose stays toasty warm!

I used the Aussie hose for the first time last night - no rainout whatsoever. However, here in Memphis I was hoping for a cool night - got down to a chilly (just kidding here) 50 degrees - halfway through the night I had to disconnect the power from it because I was having"Sweatout". I'm looking forward to the really cold nights this winter so I can stay nice and warm..gotta run and wash the car - beautiful day here in October - 75 and sunny.

If you would PM me, I can also send you information on hose covers. These can be used alone, or over an Aussie. Have had great feedback on them!
