Hold out for APAP paid off

Post by Piper_J » Tue Oct 03, 2006 11:34 am

I'm dealing with Apria to change out my RemStar Plus rental for an APAP that I can collect data with. Apria has been non-responsive to my requests. So I contacted my insurance company who said I could use other DME's and then contacted my doctor to ask if I could get a script for APAP.

I told my Doc that I needed to be able to collect data to insure that the treatment was working and that I was still gasping at times therefore a self-titrating machine might be in order. He agreed and asked me where I wanted the script faxed to.

Thursday, I will be on Aprias doorstep returning their rental!

I had it faxed to the DME after requesting a copy of the script for my records from the DME.

I fought and received an autoPAP too, thanks to online encouragement. Now I discovered at today's appointment that my doctor is not interested in looking at the results, says an individual night doesn't matter only the total of years of treatement will make a difference. I hate this dance... first when I said "Do I need to start CPAP right away, or could I try losing weight and better sleep habits?" The answer was right away, immediately, much too severe to risk delaying. Now on reading the card "It doens't matter, you have such a mild case, but treatment will help it not get worse etc."
I guess I have to get my own reader and software etc. But maybe he is right and I shouldn't be worrying and obsessing so much?

Hah, go figure. Maybe it was the mood he was in today. I want to get the software and reader so i can be proactive about the CPAP therapy because I really haven't had good sleep in a very long time. I've been on CPAP about 12 days and I still wake alot during the night sometimes gasping.

During my split night sleep study, I only slept 42 minutes on treatment so I'm not sure that the titration level is optimal. With APAP and data collection, at least I'll know where I should be at.

Arthuranxious -- is it OK if I laugh at the juxtaposition of your name and that last sentence?

And suppose we all unanimously said you shouldn't - could you?

Go ahead, obsses to you heart's content, just remember that one night's inof really indicates nothing (even one night's PSGs aren't always necessarily right). You need trends to understand what's going on in your therapy.

Read your data, put it into databases, analyse it, play about with it to your heart's content, and join our club.

My former doctor's staff looked at me as if I were carrying a plague-infested rat when I proudly brought my first AutoPAP data disk in for a routine check up. If that former doctor ever did take a look at my AutoPAP data, he sure never got back to me regarding my data or therapy

Arthuranxious,

I just installed my software (same machine you have) and it was surprisingly easy (after Restedgal and Snoredog straightened me out on where to click to get the data!)

Really worth the $169 or whatever it is selling for now. I paid $200 before the price drop, but I am still not complaining. Only thing I didn't like is the EncorePro disk was not firmly pushed in the holder (not CPAP.com's fault) and my disk is all scuffed up from sliding around in the holder during shipment. Ugh. I hate paying money for stuff that isn't like it should be. Since it works I am going to leave it alone and try not to obsess!

Much better to read your own data than be worried as to whether or not your doc or DME cares about your data.

Go for it.
