WHY would anyone want to waste their money on that garbage?
Resmed's AutoScan software is total crap here's why:
1. It does NOT detect and display ANY Snore information (yet machine responds to those events in its algorithm). Requires $750+ optional Reslink module and software which you most likely won't be able to purchase anyway.
2. It does NOT distinctly identify Flow Limitation and Hypopnea events.
3. Does a POOR job at identifying apnea events.
4. Does a POOR job at presentation of said events such as pressure dependence and other reporting features.
5. AutoScan is nothing more of a screenshot of the information available on the LCD display put in worthless graphs.
The Respironics EncorePro software SMOKES the Resmed software with reporting ability and presentation of information.
With a background in software, my thoughts are: If a company writes crappy software like that just to do simple reports, they cannot be all that much better at writing software which runs the machine internally.
And yes, I have OWNED both the Resmed Spirit and AutoScan software, in addition to Respironics EncorePro and PB's Silverlining. I rank them:
1. Respironics EncorePro
2. PB's Silverlining
3. Resmed AutoScan
Bottom line is AutoScan reports are worthless, the only page meaningful to the patient is the same information already available from the LCD, save your money.
Now DSM might show you some AutoScan reports, but the reports he shows only has information available when using the optional Reslink module, otherwise you get zero information under snore. These are not reports you get with your Elite or Vantage with the available software.

I am not an attorney, but I beleive Resmed has no legal leg to stand on.
If I am not mistaken, in The United States, it is a violation of federal law to restrain competitiion, it is also a violation of Federal Law to conspire to restrain competition.
The Justice Department should be informed of this.

Resmed software
Thanks snoredog - just the info I was looking for this morning as I realized I had to buy the software now or never.
I was wondering about it b/c I got an Autoscan report from my DME that basically told me everything I could see for myself on the LCD. The only extra info was the max and median pressure which was nice to see, but not worth the money spent.
So, I looked at an image of the software on CPAP.com which showed graphs for flow characteristics and snoring - that doesn't actually come with the basic software?
Can I use non-resmed software to read the resmed smart card? Jenny

First let me say that I have a very high respect for Snoredog and have learned a lot from his posts but some of his comments about ResMed’s AutoScan software are a little incomplete.
AutoScan does offer a little bit more information than is available from the LCD menu. Data is available that shows actual time-based pressure and leak values during the nightly sleep period and also when hypopnea and apnea events occur. It also provides the median and max values for any time period you select as opposed to just 95% values from LCD for either daily, weekly, or monthly periods (depends how your machine is set for displaying LCD data).
I cannot argue with Snoredog that Respironics software may smoke Resmed software, I wouldn't know since I have never tried Respironics machines or their software. However, if you already have a Resmed machine … I don’t think the Respironics Encore Pro software can still smoke your Resmed data?
Whether or not the Autoscan software is garbage depends if your nightly vlaues, median, and max data and/or if not having to manually transfer the LCD data to a spreadsheet or database is worth the cost of the software and card reader.
