Side effects of CPAP

Post by Miller2626 » Tue Sep 26, 2006 7:02 am

Has anyone experienced the, for lack of a better term, flatulence/burping that a night of CPAP does? I feel like a blown up balloon and my morning consists of relieving all that air. I would assume I am not the only one to experience this?

This is a common and annoying and embarrassing and sometimes painful problem called aerophagia. It seems to go away the longer you're on cpap.

If you fill in your profile so we know what equipment you have, and tell us the pressure your set at, it will help us give you better answers.

Yes. I am in fact experiencing the same thing right now. I started taping my mouth again after trying other methods of eliminating leaks, and it came back with a venegance. These past two nights I had the best leak rate ever, 0 and .06, but the worst aerophagia ever. I do hope that it does go away soon, as it is painful and uncomfortable.

This is very common in new users, especially at higher pressures. Your body will adjust and the severity will decrease. As a guy, I just always viewed this as an added benefit.
