Swift Mask - anyone glue the ends on it?

Post by dllfo » Fri Sep 22, 2006 9:49 am

I need to glue this thing together I guess. I have a ten foot hose, which is more or less "free" to move. I do pull the hose up under one of my pillows, but the hose can be moved by pulling lightly on it.

Anyway, if you did glue a mask, what glue did you use?

I also have shrink wrap large enough for it.

I am concerned some glues might smell bad for months, or provide harmful fumes.

Suggestions?

I am considering using tape on the small hose connetion. Not to the cpap tube but to the swift tube. I think this is what you mean?

I figure with tape I could remove it if necessary and since I use the tape on my mouth it should be fine for the hose.

But the bottom line is yes, I also have a problem with that pulling out occasionally (6 foot hose pinned to the bedsheet)

Yes, it is the ....12 inch long hose...clear plastic..sort of...I thought about using Elmer's glue. I think it is pretty safe.

There is a blue tape made for painting. Fairly sticky, or the tape the hospitals use to keep your IV in place, THAT tape will hold anything.

I might just use the hospital's tape. It should be "clean" enough and no fumes off it.....

I had the same problem, but I took a different tack. I told my DME to send me a new hose and they did. But it had the same problem. So I contacted ResMed. They said that they have recognized the problem with the swivel/hose connection and they have redesigned it. Replacements are available to the DMEs through warranty. They said that there are still a lot of the old hoses in DME inventories and unfortunately, some of them are still sending out the old hoses. So I called my DME and told them I wanted the new, redesigned hose, not the old one. They sent me a whole new mask and the hose on the new mask doesn't pull lose like the old one...at least not so far. I was not due for a mask replacement yet either!

I emailed Apria and RESMED, guess I will find out next week. My first choice is a good hose from the factory, not me gluing it.

Mando

What do the new and old hoses look like.

Maybe anyone buying a swift may now get a new one.

hose connection from Swift interface coming loose from main

Post by don b » Sat Sep 23, 2006 9:33 am

I too have had the connector between hoses pull loose. It's very disconcerting to suddenly be without the pressure of the machine.
I first tried super glue and it seemed to travel everywhere. It glued the whole connecter and I lost the ability to have it swivel.
The second time I took a hot glue gun and used a couple of drops onto the small hose connector and quickly placed hose and connecter together and twisted for a good seal. Works wonderfully and no smell. Don

Don...good idea. I thought the hot glue would melt the hose. I have a total of 4 hoses that have come apart. I just threw one away.

I also emailed Courtnee, telling her about the improved hoses, asking if she can snag two of them for me.

What is the warranty on the Swift?? 6 months? A year? I will go look at my paperwork.

They look identical. But you can yank on the new one and it won't pull out. I guess they have glued or bonded it somehow.

I tried gluing the ends to my nose, but then I couldn't find a suit or tie that didn't clash.

Sorry!
