What's wrong with my PB420E?

Post by mild6 » Wed Sep 13, 2006 7:37 pm

I've always set my auto pressure from 6cm - 20 cm h20, ramp 0 mins. It would go up to 6cm right after I turned it on. But since last weekend, everytime I turn it on, it goes to 2.5 and then drops back to a blinking signal "In 1". Does anyone know what it means? Signal "In 1" blows a very weak level of air until sometime later it goes up to 6 all of a sudden. I've also been feeling that the pressure is a bit volatile, and nosier than it used to.

For those of you who know me, I bought my first PB420E in Feb 06, started hearing whinning sound in May, sent it back for repair, and got a brand new replacement in July. It has been performing well over the past two months. But now it seems to have problem again.

In 1 error on the 420e can happen for a couple of reasons from my experience. The mask is disconnected or you have a major leak. Second would be the sensor line is not connected to the 420E or it is blocked or compressed where it enters the main hose to the mask. Just pull the sensor line out of the main hose a little on the 420E end about 1/2" is enough to see if it has been compressed by the main hose. I move my sensor line in or out a little very now and then to stop it from being compressed. Other than these few things I don't know what else can cause the IN 1 error. One other thing to check if you have the H2O humidifier is the coupling between the 420E and the humidifier is sealing. I have the seal on my machine turned around with the short side to the 420E. I find it seals better this way.

Hope this helps

peter or anyone,

now i remember! i didn't cover the other end of the sensor tube when washing the hose parts and mask last weekend. would it be the cause of the error? if yes, does that mean the hose has already become obsolet or there's any way to get it fixed?

Yes that could cause the problem if there is water in the sensor line. All you should need to do is blow the water out of the sensor line for it to work again. Providing the water hasn't been pushed in to the sensor on the 420E.

peter,

How would you blow the water out of the sensor line? gee, i'm now worried that water has been pushed into the machine through the sensor tube....

Hey Mild6,

I accidentally forgot to plug the sensor line when I cleaned the hose once. I freaked a little when I realised it. Then I proceeded to use my mouth to blow it out. Guess I am full of hot air after all I probably should have used an air compressor, but I didn't think at the time.

Best of luck,

Melinda

How to blow water out of sensor line? Treat it like a straw and just blow into it. If you want to get fancy, use a can of compressed air. It is easy either way.
