Can someone tell me what the lowest cost Cpap is. I only need a simple one with one pressure setting. I already have a prescription but no insurance

I bought a secondhand Resmed s9 auto for $300 with 2,500 hours, from a craigslist type site.. I read the life span is a conservative 15-20,000

Check Craigslist under Health and Beauty look for used but then you are gonna have to know which models are worth what so spend some time here reading, learning, and asking questions.

So how much can you spend and what pressure setting is it that you have been prescribed on that RX?
Would buying a used one freak you out too much?

I have a S8 Vontage which is an auto with only about 100 hrs on it. It provides
some data but not as much detail as most of us want to have and you can't use
it with SleepyHead. But if you are in the continental USA I will ship it to you
for $125 .

I have an old Goodknight cpap machine...used but still works fine. Doesn't have an enormous amount of hours on it either.
It's free if you will pay shipping which probable will be around 20 to 25 dollars depending on where you are.
It was donated and I need to get it out of my house.
I can set it for whatever pressure you need.

It's not the ideal first machine (if you are new to therapy) but it will get the job done until you can afford something closer to ideal.
I also have a brand new sealed hose and maybe a used mask I can include for free. I would need to know what size and type of mask you might be thinking about.

You will need to register here and the forum and log in for us to communicate via private messages.
Contact me via PM if you are interested.

BTW...if you can afford $200 for the machine grayghost4 has...it's what I would call "ideal" and I would suggest you seriously consider it especially if you are brand new to cpap therapy.

Do you use a humidifier? grayghost machine doesn't include a humidifier.

My choice if I needed cheap.

Keep in mind the people on this board can help you dial it in to optimize your therapy.

If on your own dime, I would try Second Wind.com for a used machine. It's check out and thoroughly sanitized. Get an AUTO. Your needs could change and let the machine figure it out for you. I use a Respironics Auto M and a Philips System One. The System One allows me to use Sleephead software. I use a Hybernite head house with both. They work good. Absolutely cheap way is through Craiglist. But then they won't be sanitized.

Can you explain how a CPAP machine is sanitized?

"sanitized"

do you have *any* idea what you're talking about? no, I thought not.

there's no need to "sanitize" (do you know what that means?) a cpap.

the airsense10 manual offers the following instructions for "reprocessing" between patients, in a clinic or hospital setting.
1. Wipe the exterior of the device including display, externally accessible ports, power supply unit
and accessories with a disposable cloth and mild detergent or alcohol disinfectant (see list
below).
2. Remove any excess disinfectant with a disposable dry cloth.
Agents recommended for surface disinfection and cleaning:
 Warm water and mild detergent eg, Teepol TM multipurpose detergent
 Window cleaner or other premixed surface detergent
 Methyl alcohol solution
 70% Ethyl alcohol solution
 70-90% Isopropanol solution
 10% Bleach solution
 Isopropyl wipes
 CaviCide TM
 Mikrozid ®
 Actichlor TM Plus
 Terralin ® .
similar for the tube and water container.

all things that are *EASILY* done at home.

don't spread ingorant FUD.

When Secondwindcpap.com receives a machine, they clean the outside, and then take it apart and disinfect the inside including replacing the foam if need be. They also check for wear on seals and water damage among other things. Sure, it's something you can do, with a torx wrench and some elbow grease, but the other poster was simply pointing out a service provided by Secondwindcpap.com.
