Successful CPAP but getting frustrated with hose

Post by alexm » Mon Feb 20, 2017 4:33 pm

I have had successful treatment with my Resmed Airsense 10 for two years. Snoring has stopped to a crawl and I assume my AHI of 19 during my study has been tamed...all stats point to success. I wear the Dreamware mask which is fairly comfortable, but the hose is really annoying, bulky and I am to the point where I want to give up and do a dental appliance. I am very compliant wearing my mask, except when I travel to more exotic places. The hose is becoming a real problem. Thanks.

Alex

In what way is the hose bothering you? Is it in your way? Are you afraid to move (for fear of disconnecting or pulling the machine)? Does it feel like it is tugging at your mask? Some other issue?

Before you jump try sleeping with something in your mouth then imagine the stress and pain you will feel all nite long before you do this. Keeping in mind that insurance will not cover the dental appliance or fitting.

Then reply with what problem the hose is causing.

It just moves around the head of the bed, making nose, banging into my side table, headboard, etc. Constantly tugging on my head before I can fall asleep.

Guest...not understanding you first comment....second comment, my insurance will cover 60% and no need to constantly pay for mask, hose, etc. even with my copay. I see in the long run it being cheaper. Not saying I will do it but seems cheaper in the longrun.

If you have the hose running over the headboard which causes noise, you might try another type of hose management. Some users make their own with a command strip hook and elastic ponytail holders. Put your hose through the holder where it has enough give to move with you but high enough to be out of your way and help with rainout. There are also commercial holders that you can buy from cpap.com.

If you're not using a heated hose, you can get a longer hose. That might not pull as much.

Also, you can get a longer heated hose, at least for the DreamStation.

You need 2 things to solve the problem-- A Snuggle Hose Cover- with a zipper. The one without a zipper is too hard to get on. And a Hoze Buddy.

The snuggle hose cover will stop the banging and noise. it also makes the hose feel like the covers instead of plastic against your skin.
The Hoze buddy keeps the hose where it is supposed to be.

Get a hose hanger. I use the Hose Buddy. Do a search here for hose hangers. There are a lot of home made ones that work real good.

dental "appliances" don't last forever, some don't last more than a couple years... then it's 40% of another couple grand, down the tubes.

I've been using the same hose for the last four years, *because it hasn't worn out*. I'm on about 3 years on my mask cushion, waiting for that to wear out.

I think I know what the OP is talking about. I solved it by pulling my mattress far enough forward to allow the hose to fall down behind it onto the mattress base (which is at the same level as my machine)

Fortunately you descibe an issue that can be easily and cheaply solved. Having the hose tug on the mask is not only frustrating, but contributes to leaks. Even when traveling, the command hanger with a hairband is travel friendly as it is easily removable. As for noise, a hose cover can help when the hose rubs against wood. Not sure if you can use them if your hose is heated or not. A small towel thrown over the headboard where the hose hangs may also help.

I use a heated hose and have a snuggle hose cover on it. seems to work fine for 2 yrs now. Definitely stops the noise of the hose rubbing against the headboard.
